Sandra Hüller has shared her thoughts on the possibility of reprising her role in a sequel to Project Hail Mary, though she has not confirmed any plans regarding her future in the franchise.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and penned by Drew Goddard, the film is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel. Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a school teacher who awakens alone on a spacecraft with no recollection of how he arrived there. Hüller plays a supporting role alongside James Ortiz and Lionel Boyce.

Development for the movie began in 2020, even prior to the novel’s official release. Drew Goddard returned to adapt the story after his previous work on The Martian. Filming occurred in the United Kingdom in 2024, utilizing a mix of real locations and extensive practical sets. The spacecraft interior, known as the Hail Mary, was constructed as a full physical set, allowing many scenes to be filmed in a tangible environment rather than relying solely on digital effects.

The film debuted in London on March 9 and later premiered in the United States on March 20 through Amazon MGM Studios, with Sony Pictures Releasing managing international distribution. Following its release, the film garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences, grossing approximately 658 million dollars worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2026.

With the film’s success, speculation about a sequel has arisen, prompting inquiries about the cast’s potential return. When asked directly about her involvement in another Project Hail Mary film, Hüller refrained from confirming or denying any future plans.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I have fun with a lot of different things and I feel very, very lucky that I can explore these different ways of working. That’s all.”

Currently, there has been no official announcement regarding a sequel to Project Hail Mary. Hüller’s remarks leave her future in the series uncertain, with no definitive indication of her return should another film be produced.
