Erling Haaland Makes Film Debut as Animated Viking in ‘ViQueens’
Norwegian soccer sensation Erling Haaland is making his film debut with a voice acting role in the animated movie ViQueens.
Directed by Harald Zwart, known for The Karate Kid and Agent Cody Banks, ViQueens is an animated adventure-comedy that transports viewers to a fantasy realm filled with warrior girls, stunning Nordic landscapes, and elements inspired by Silk Road mythology.
In the film, Haaland will voice an animated version of himself, portraying a Viking named Haaland. This casting choice has garnered attention due to its alignment with his public persona. The Manchester City striker is famous for his physicality, speed, and long blond hair, traits that have led fans and media to liken him to a Viking figure.
Director Harald Zwart shared his excitement in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “As a Norwegian storyteller making a Viking adventure for a global audience, having Erling Haaland join ViQueens feels incredibly exciting. Erling has already become a kind of real-life Viking icon around the world – powerful, fearless, and uniquely Norwegian. Bringing him into this universe as himself gives the film an unexpected energy and authenticity that felt completely right for this story.”
The narrative of ViQueens centers on two main characters, Hedvig and Ingrid, voiced by Rita Ora and Ella Purnell. The film follows these rebellious Viking girls as they defy tradition and embark on a journey that takes them far beyond Norway, leading to a cross-cultural adventure.
Other cast members include Steve Speirs, Anton Lesser, and Alan Carr, with music composed by Christophe Beck. The film is produced by Veslemøy Ruud Zwart and Karve Animation, with international sales managed by Sola Media.
According to the report, ViQueens has been in production and was previously showcased to buyers at the American Film Market. It is also anticipated to be featured at upcoming industry markets as it progresses toward completion.
Sola Media’s managing director Solveig Langeland emphasized Haaland’s global appeal, stating, “Erling Haaland transcends sports – he’s a global cultural figure. His involvement brings another exciting dimension to a film that already combines international adventure, humor, and emotional storytelling in a way we believe will resonate with audiences everywhere.”
The film is currently slated for delivery in late 2026, with a release planned around Christmas in its home territory. Haaland’s participation is expected to enhance its international visibility, given his widespread popularity and extensive social media following.
ViQueens represents a unique crossover for the football star, who joins the growing list of athletes transitioning into animation and film projects while still active in their sports careers.
