‘Marshals’ Season 2 Update Logan Marshall-Green Reveals Major Story & Production Details
‘Marshals’ is already accelerating into Season 2, and star Logan Marshall-Green has confirmed that the narrative will pick up right after the intense Season 1 finale.
This popular CBS series, part of Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ franchise, has rapidly gained traction, averaging around 26.5 million viewers across CBS and Paramount+. This impressive viewership makes it one of the most-watched shows on both broadcast and streaming platforms.
The conclusion of Season 1 left several significant storylines unresolved. Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Luke Grimes, is contemplating selling East Camp, the property that symbolizes his last tie to the Dutton family legacy. Meanwhile, Deputy Marshal Pete “Cal” Calvin has finally disclosed a serious health issue that could alter his future dramatically.

In an interview with TV Insider, Marshall-Green shared exciting insights about what fans can anticipate when the series returns. He confirmed that production for Season 2 is already underway, with the cast and crew diving straight back into the action.
“We’re dogging, right out of the gate, about seven, eight pages a day,” Marshall-Green stated.
He also revealed that Season 2 will commence precisely where Season 1 concluded.
“Season 2 will pick up right where we left off, literally and figuratively. No rest for the wicked,” he elaborated.
Marshall-Green also hinted that the Season 1 finale features a surprising twist that even took him by surprise while reading the script.
The rapid production pace is typical for a network drama like ‘Marshals’, but filming seven or eight pages a day is still quite demanding. Unlike streaming shows that may take longer between seasons, network series generally operate on tighter schedules to prepare for weekly television broadcasts.
CBS has shown strong confidence in the series’ future. During its recent upfront presentation, the network confirmed that ‘Marshals’ will return to its Sunday night 8 p.m. time slot for the Fall 2026 television season, airing alongside another successful CBS drama, ‘Tracker’.
A major question heading into Season 2 revolves around Cal’s health. In a recent episode, Cal revealed to fellow marshal Belle Skinner, played by Arielle Kebbel, that he has a pancoast tumor in his lung. This diagnosis is potentially life-threatening and adds a deeper emotional layer to his character as the story progresses.
Marshall-Green explained that this storyline was a specific focus for showrunner Spencer Hudnut. He also hinted that Cal’s military background is closely tied to the illness and the emotional challenges that accompany it.
Fans are eagerly hoping for more crossover moments within the ‘Yellowstone’ universe. Discussions have already taken place regarding a reunion between Kayce and his sister Beth, portrayed by Kelly Reilly, along with her husband Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser. Both Hudnut and Reilly have teased the potential for these characters to appear together again in the future.
Hauser has even expressed a preference for Rip to return to Montana for a crossover rather than Kayce traveling to Texas, where the newer spinoff ‘Dutton Ranch’ is set.
For now, viewers will have to wait and see what lies ahead for Cal and whether he can continue to lead the U.S. Marshals team. However, based on Marshall-Green’s comments, Season 2 is set to maintain a fast pace.
