Zahara Jolie-Pitt Drops ‘Pitt’ at Graduation from Spelman College
Zahara Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, made headlines recently by seemingly dropping her father’s surname during her college graduation.
This news emerged from reports covering her graduation at Spelman College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology on Sunday, May 17. At 21 years old, she is the eldest daughter in the family.
During the ceremony, her full name was listed in the program as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt. However, when she walked across the stage to receive her diploma, she was introduced simply as Zahara Marley Jolie.
Zahara is one of six children of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, alongside Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.
This isn’t the first instance of her name appearing without “Pitt.” Previous reports have noted similar occurrences at public events. For example, at a Pearls of Purpose Foundation event in April, she was also referred to as Zahara Jolie. During that event, she delivered a heartfelt speech about her mother, describing their bond as a “unique, almost kindred, relationship” and expressing her gratitude for having a role model who exemplifies what it means to be a decent human being.
Other siblings have also opted to drop the Pitt surname in public or legal contexts. Shiloh legally changed her name in 2024 after reaching 18. Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for the theatre production ‘The Outsiders’, where she worked behind the scenes. Similarly, Maddox was listed as Maddox Jolie in film credits for ‘Couture’.
