New Promo for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Features Anne Hathaway
A fresh promo video for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey has been unveiled, showcasing Anne Hathaway delivering a calm yet enigmatic voiceover that hints at the film’s profound themes. In this clip, Hathaway addresses the audience directly, sharing a message that intertwines reflection, strength, and hidden significance.
In the promo, Hathaway states, “Hello travelers, not all challenges present themselves in the battlefield. Some wars are fought with patience, intellect, and craft. Strength lives in these moments, and resolve and hope, and is held fast against all odds. Pay close attention to the pattern of the fabric seen here, it is ephemeral.” This line has garnered attention online due to its unique emphasis on patience and symbolism over action.
The Odyssey is an upcoming epic fantasy action film penned and directed by Christopher Nolan. It draws inspiration from Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. The narrative follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, portrayed by Matt Damon, as he endeavors to return home after the Trojan War. His perilous journey is filled with mythical encounters as he seeks to reunite with his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Alongside Damon and Hathaway, it features Tom Holland as Telemachus, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Lupita Nyong’o in dual roles, and Charlize Theron as Calypso. Other notable cast members include Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Himesh Patel, and Mia Goth, among many others.
According to production details, Nolan began writing the film in March 2024. Universal Pictures acquired the project later that year, with casting continuing through early 2025. Filming took place across various countries including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, Western Sahara, Malta, and the United States. The film is particularly noteworthy for being shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film, marking it as one of Nolan’s most technically ambitious endeavors.
The production is overseen by Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas through their company Syncopy. The film is characterized as a realistic interpretation of Greek mythology, drawing inspiration from Emily Wilson’s modern translation of The Odyssey and the visual aesthetics of classic fantasy filmmaking.
The film is set to be released in the United States on July 17, and will be screened in IMAX theaters.
As excitement builds, the new promo featuring Hathaway adds another layer of intrigue to the project, indicating that The Odyssey will explore not only physical journeys but also emotional and intellectual struggles along the way.
