‘The Boys’ creator Eric Kripke recently shared his thoughts on how he believes fans will respond to the show’s final season. He mentioned that he does not expect a unanimous reaction from viewers and thinks the ending will spark divided opinions.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kripke acknowledged that not everyone will appreciate how the story concludes. He noted that online feedback can be quite intense, but he has come to terms with it over the years.

“Look I want everyone to love it, it’s not fun to go online and have like a thousand comments in a row saying ‘you suck!’ But I’ve sort of made peace with it, it’s going to be polarizing like everything else,” Kripke stated.

He also reflected on advice from another showrunner that reshaped his perspective on his role.

“Your job is to get an emotional reaction out of people, not exactly what that reaction is,” he explained. “So, if people love it, if people hate it as long as they are feeling an emotion then I’ve done my job.”

These comments come as the final episode of ‘The Boys’ reveals a split between critics and fans. Review scores indicate that critics have reacted positively, with a 97% Tomatometer score based on numerous reviews. However, the audience score is significantly lower at around 59%, highlighting a clear divide between critics and viewers.

Fans have been vocal online, expressing disappointment with the pacing of the final season and the way the story concluded. Some have criticized slow episodes and what they perceive as “filler” content, while others feel key characters were underutilized and that the final episodes seemed rushed after years of buildup.

Conversely, not all fan reactions have been negative. Some viewers expressed enjoyment of the ending, feeling it provided a suitable conclusion for the characters. A few fans also praised the emotional moments and noted that the show remained true to its style even in the final episodes.

Kripke’s remarks indicate he anticipated this kind of mixed reception. He emphasized that his goal was never to please everyone, but rather to ensure the audience experienced strong emotions by the end of the story.
