Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Teaser Released Ahead of September 18 Premiere
A fresh teaser for Resident Evil, directed by Zach Cregger, has been unveiled, offering fans their first glimpse of the upcoming reboot of this iconic horror franchise.
This film is based on Capcom’s long-standing video game series and marks the second reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise. Reports indicate that the story unfolds during the events of Resident Evil 2 (1998), amidst the chaos of the Raccoon City outbreak.
The narrative centers on Bryan, a medical courier portrayed by Austin Abrams, who finds himself ensnared in the turmoil while attempting to complete a delivery. As Raccoon City crumbles around him, he must fight for survival against infected creatures and escalating horror.
The teaser enhances excitement for the grounded and survival-centric tone that director Zach Cregger has previously discussed. Cregger co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten and has described the film as a “love letter” to the games, rather than a straightforward retelling of existing movie plots.
In addition to Austin Abrams, the cast features Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser as Umbrella Corporation scientists, along with Johnno Wilson as an Umbrella enforcer. The film focuses on a new character perspective instead of following the familiar heroes from the video games, a point Cregger confirmed in earlier production updates.
According to Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, the reboot aims to align more closely with the original game timeline and atmosphere. Cregger has also mentioned that the film will not directly portray characters like Leon Kennedy, as their stories are already established in the games.
With post-production ongoing, the new teaser arrives ahead of the film’s planned release on September 18. Filming took place in Prague starting in late 2025, with cinematography by Dariusz Wolski.
With this latest teaser now out, Resident Evil is stepping back into the limelight, aiming to reset the franchise with a darker and more survival-oriented approach that fans of the games will surely appreciate.
