Horror fans know the disappointment of rushing out of theaters only to miss a vital final reveal hidden behind the credits. With Curry Barker’s supernatural thriller ‘Obsession‘ drawing crowds across North America since its May 15 release, the burning question quickly spread: is there anything waiting at the end of the credits?

The answer is straightforward: no, there is no post-credits scene in ‘Obsession’. Viewers can exit the theater right after the film concludes without missing any additional content. However, the existing ending has ignited extensive discussions, theories, and reactions from viewers, keeping the conversation alive since opening weekend.

In the climax of ‘Obsession’, Bear realizes that to escape the torment of the One Wish Willow, he must end his own life. This grim conclusion encapsulates a narrative about desire transforming into something horrific. Bear used the mystical stick to compel his best friend Nikki to love him above all else, but the wish backfired, leading Nikki to become obsessively malevolent, even committing violent acts against their friends in front of Bear.

The film concludes with Nikki’s shocked, and perhaps relieved, reaction to Bear’s death. This final image serves as a haunting question mark, leaving the audience to grapple with the chaos unleashed by one selfish wish. The bleak ending of ‘Obsession’ is likely to linger in viewers’ minds long after the credits roll, resonating with many due to its profound themes.

Audience reactions have been intense. Star Inde Navarrette mentioned in a May interview that she saw grown men jumping and screaming during screenings, a sentiment echoed by co-star Michael Johnston, who noted that the audience’s shrieks often drowned out the film.

Interestingly, Barker revealed that the ending seen in theaters was not the only one filmed. He shot a significantly darker version, which he referred to as his Romeo and Juliet ending, where Nikki dies alongside Bear. Barker shared that feedback from those around him convinced him that the alternate ending would not have the same impact, leading him to opt for the version where Nikki survives.

Navarrette has expressed her support for the final ending. Given how Nikki’s haunted expression has resonated with horror fans this month, it’s hard to dispute that choice. Barker has even hinted at the possibility of releasing the alternate version in the future, suggesting a director’s cut that could extend the film by 20 minutes.

The journey of ‘Obsession’ from a low-budget passion project to one of 2026’s most discussed horror films is almost as captivating as the film itself. Curry Barker first gained attention with his 2024 micro-budget short ‘Milk and Serial’, which went viral after being released for free on YouTube.

‘Obsession’ premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival, where Focus Features quickly acquired it for over $14 million, with Universal Pictures International handling overseas distribution. At TIFF, ‘Obsession’ was named first runner-up for the People’s Choice Award in the Midnight Madness category.

In December 2025, Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions officially joined the project. The film was produced for a mere one million dollars and opened to impressive box office results, earning $16 million in its opening weekend and achieving a 96% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The lack of a post-credits scene is an artistic choice in itself. Rather than hinting at a potential franchise, Barker allowed the story to conclude on its own terms. ‘Obsession’ tells the tale of a hopeless romantic whose desire for love spirals into something far darker and more dangerous than he ever anticipated.

Barker has indicated that a sequel is unlikely, aligning with the film’s self-contained narrative logic. There are no loose ends, no mysterious figures lurking, and no second branch of the One Wish Willow waiting to be snapped.

Barker has already announced his next project, ‘Anything but Ghosts’, which he will direct, co-write, and star in, produced through Blumhouse and Spooky Pictures, set for release via Focus Features. The horror community is keenly observing this director, and ‘Obsession’ has given them plenty of reasons to remain intrigued about his future projects. With Bear’s demise and Nikki left to bear the consequences of her actions under the supernatural influence, the true horror of ‘Obsession’ lingers in the mind long after the lights come up. What do you think that final look on Nikki’s face signifies, and does she deserve your sympathy?
