Donald Trump had a strong reaction following the airing of Stephen Colbert’s final episode of The Late Show on CBS. His comments surfaced shortly after the long-running late-night program concluded its run.

In a post on Truth Social at 1:52 a.m. ET, Trump directly criticized Colbert, stating, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”

These remarks followed CBS’s announcement that The Late Show would be canceled. Trump expressed his satisfaction with the decision, claiming that Colbert had been fired.

During his tenure, Colbert frequently mocked Trump. After CBS confirmed the cancellation, Colbert responded on air with a pointed insult directed at the former president, saying, “Go fuck yourself”, although the profanity was censored during the broadcast.

The final episode of The Late Show, which aired on May 21, featured several notable guests. The send-off included appearances from Paul McCartney, Bryan Cranston, Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds, Tim Meadows, and Tig Notaro. McCartney participated in a prerecorded comedy segment that culminated in the symbolic shutdown of the Ed Sullivan Theater, marking the end of the show after 11 seasons.

CBS stated that the cancellation was a financial decision, citing the declining economics of late-night television. However, some have questioned this rationale, suggesting that politics may have influenced the decision due to Colbert’s frequent critiques of Trump.

Trump has also taken aim at other late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel. Following a joke about the First Lady on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Trump called for action against the show, leading to regulatory scrutiny of Disney and ABC, according to reports.
