Stephen Amell Unveils First ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Teaser Ahead of 2027 Premiere
Stephen Amell has shared the first teaser for the upcoming ‘Baywatch’ reboot on Instagram, offering fans a glimpse of the refreshed lifeguard drama set to air on Fox in 2027.
In his post, Amell captioned the teaser with, “I dream in slow motion.” The brief clip pays homage to one of the original series’ most iconic moments: the slow-motion beach run. Viewers can see Amell sprinting along the shore in the classic red lifeguard attire, with crashing waves as a backdrop. The teaser also features quick glimpses of other cast members, including Brooks Nader and Livvy Dunne, both donning the franchise’s signature red swimsuits.
The reboot aims to modernize the classic series while retaining the elements that fans loved about the original. Expect to see beach rescues, lifeguard drama, ocean action, and, of course, those memorable slow-motion runs.
In this new series, Amell portrays Hobie Buchannon, the adult son of Mitch Buchannon, the iconic lifeguard originally played by David Hasselhoff. This connection ties the reboot directly to the classic series rather than starting anew.
The cast features a mix of younger talent alongside familiar faces from the original franchise. According to IMDb and production reports, the lineup includes Jessica Belkin, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Brooks Nader, Noah Beck, Shay Mitchell, Luke Eisner, Ashley Moore, and Thaddeus LaGrone.
A notable return for longtime fans is Erika Eleniak, who portrayed Shauni McClain in the early years of the original series. David Chokachi is also back as Cody Madison, further connecting the reboot to the beloved show that became a global television phenomenon in the 1990s.
The original ‘Baywatch’ aired from 1989 to 2001 and became one of the most recognizable television brands of its time. Known for its beach action and star-studded cast, which included Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Erika Eleniak, and David Hasselhoff, the series popularized the red swimsuits and California beach setting as major pop culture symbols.
The reboot seems to be leaning into that nostalgia while also appealing to younger audiences through social media influencers and newer actors. Livvy Dunne and Noah Beck bring substantial online followings, while Shay Mitchell joins the cast as Trina, a former lawyer turned lifeguard.
Mitchell recently described filming in the iconic swimsuit as a surreal experience. The production has already garnered attention online, especially after set photos from Venice Beach surfaced earlier this year.
Amell has acknowledged the challenge of stepping into such a recognizable franchise. In a recent TikTok post, he humorously noted that no one can truly replace David Hasselhoff, whose role defined the original series for an entire generation.
The new Fox reboot is slated to premiere in January 2027. While full story details remain under wraps, the first teaser clearly indicates that the new iteration of ‘Baywatch’ is committed to embracing the style that made the original famous, aiming to capture a new audience.
