DC Studios has unveiled a new TV spot for Supergirl, sparking excitement among fans with fresh footage featuring Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo. This brief promo shines a significant light on the character, showcasing the wild energy he is expected to bring to the forthcoming DCU movie.

The footage also appears to include a visual nod to Superman. In one scene, Kara Zor-El delivers a kick to an enemy, sending a tooth flying through the air, reminiscent of a moment from Superman’s recent film where the Man of Steel punched one of Lex Luthor’s henchmen high above Metropolis. Although this similarity hasn’t been officially confirmed, fans online have quickly pointed it out.

The movie is set to explore the cosmic aspects of the DC Universe. The TV spot features several alien species, and many fans have noted that its overall style evokes James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films. While Gunn did not direct Supergirl, viewers feel his creative influence is evident throughout the project.

One of the key reasons for the buzz is Jason Momoa’s role as Lobo. The actor, who previously portrayed Aquaman in the earlier DC movie universe, has expressed that Lobo has always been his dream comic book character to embody. In the comics, Lobo is known as one of DC’s most violent and unpredictable antiheroes, first appearing in the 1980s and quickly gaining popularity due to his outrageous personality, brutal fighting style, and dark humor.

Lobo is an alien bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, who refers to himself as “The Main Man.” He is notorious for causing chaos wherever he goes. In the comics, he rides a space motorcycle, takes on dangerous jobs across the galaxy, and often finds himself in conflict with heroes like Superman. His healing ability makes him particularly formidable, allowing him to recover almost instantly from severe injuries. He also possesses super strength, remarkable durability, and a blatant disregard for rules or authority.

Over the years, Lobo has developed a cult following among comic readers for being a stark contrast to traditional superheroes. He enjoys heavy drinking, revels in violence, and typically prioritizes money and fun over saving lives. Despite these traits, fans are drawn to his larger-than-life persona and unpredictable antics. Jason Momoa appears to be a perfect fit for the role, and the new TV spot offers a glimpse into the chaotic nature of this version of Lobo.

In a recent interview with Variety ahead of the film’s promotional tour, star Milly Alcock shared her emotional connection to Kara Zor-El. She expressed, “I am so excited for all the young women who are going to see this — that’s really going to get me.”

Alcock elaborated on why the character resonates with her, stating, “What Kara was going through that I was going through is she’s someone who has been at war with themselves. And I think that’s a very universal feeling — especially for women.”

She further added, “Pain is a universal feeling. I was able to connect with that pretty instantly. And that was the thing that would ground me in her.”

Directed by Craig Gillespie and penned by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El alongside Jason Momoa, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The film is set to hit theaters on June 26.
