Working on a popular TV series often fosters quick friendships among actors, especially during intense filming schedules that keep everyone on set for long hours. For many casts, those initial off-camera moments can become just as memorable as the scenes that viewers eventually see.

This was certainly true for Luke Tennie while filming Season 2 of ‘The Pitt’. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, he recounted a humorous story about running into co-star Patrick Ball multiple times before they officially began working together.

Tennie, who appeared in three episodes as Dr. Crus Henderson, a night shift resident at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, quickly formed connections with several cast members during production, despite his relatively new role.

According to Tennie, he first met Ball at a mutual friend’s birthday party between seasons. Recognizing him from the series, he wanted to introduce himself and approached the actor, also meeting Ball’s partner, Elysia Roorbach.

Tennie told PEOPLE, “I see homie from ‘The Pitt’ and I go to say, ‘What’s up? I’m a big fan.’” He noted that the couple was incredibly friendly and welcoming during their initial conversation.

The amusing part came afterward, as the two actors kept unexpectedly running into each other at various events before filming began. Tennie explained that they saw each other again at an Emmys gathering and later at another party.

By the time production started, their repeated encounters had turned into a running joke between them. Tennie shared that when he arrived at the trailer for filming, Ball greeted him with a quip about their frequent meetings.

He recalled Ball saying, “Buddy, we have to stop meeting like this.”

This moment instantly made Tennie feel at ease on set, as he already felt a sense of familiarity after their numerous encounters. The relaxed atmosphere helped foster a genuine friendship while filming the medical drama.

‘The Pitt’ has quickly emerged as one of the most discussed medical dramas on television. Created by R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by Noah Wyle and John Wells, the series chronicles the experiences of hospital staff during a grueling 15-hour shift. Season 2 centered on a Fourth of July shift filled with emergencies, chaos, and emotional moments.

In addition to ‘The Pitt’, Tennie has been building a solid television career with roles in ‘Shrinking’ and ‘Abbott Elementary’. He explained to PEOPLE that acting on ‘The Pitt’ feels distinctly different from comedy-focused projects like ‘Shrinking’.

He stated, “There is an element of realism that is so necessary in ‘The Pitt’ that I think it kind of reeducates your motor as an actor.”

Tennie also elaborated on how each show demands a unique acting style. He noted that comedy requires more looseness and spontaneity, while ‘The Pitt’ relies heavily on precision and control in scenes.

Although it remains uncertain whether Tennie will return for Season 3, fans are eagerly anticipating the series’ continuation and the expansion of its night shift storylines. Reports suggest that there may be a greater focus on those characters moving forward.

For now, Tennie’s behind-the-scenes story serves as a reminder of how naturally close casts can become while working together on long television productions.
