DC Studios’ Next Big Villain Movie? ‘Deathstroke & Bane’ Reportedly Gains Priority
DC Studios seems to be advancing with one of its most intense and violent projects yet. A film focusing on two of DC Comics’ most formidable villains, Bane and Deathstroke, is reportedly becoming a higher priority for the studio as the new DC Universe continues to evolve.
The concept of uniting Bane and Deathstroke was first introduced in 2024 when DC announced that a team-up movie featuring both characters was in the works. The project quickly captured the interest of fans due to the brutal fighting styles, intelligence, and history of both villains as significant threats to heroes like Batman.
Matthew Orton, known for his work on Captain America: Brave New World, is penning the screenplay. Currently, no director or cast members have been officially attached to the project, and DC Studios has yet to reveal a release date.
According to reports, the film remains in the early development stages, but the studio has begun considering potential directors. By May 2026, several filmmakers were reportedly under consideration, with Greg Mottola emerging as a notable name associated with the project.
Should Mottola take on the role, it is suggested that Orton would revise the script based on the director’s vision. However, the screenplay is still incomplete, indicating that the film is far from entering production.
If the project proceeds, filming is expected to take place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, a location that has hosted numerous major productions in the past, making it a likely venue for DC’s latest villain-centric narrative.
The notion of a Deathstroke film has been in circulation for years. Under previous DC leadership, the studio attempted to develop a project featuring the character with Joe Manganiello attached. Manganiello made a brief appearance as Deathstroke in a post-credits scene from Justice League, hinting at a potential storyline. However, that version of the project never materialized.
Now, with DC Studios under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the franchise is adopting a fresh approach. Rather than solely focusing on traditional heroes, the studio appears keen on exploring narratives centered around darker characters.
Bane and Deathstroke are two villains who could introduce a different flavor to the DC Universe. Bane is famously known as the character who physically broke Batman in the iconic “Knightfall” storyline, while Deathstroke is a highly skilled assassin and one of the most formidable fighters in the DC realm.
This movie could provide audiences with a unique opportunity to see two villains collaborating rather than merely opposing superheroes. Their personalities also create a compelling dynamic, with both characters being highly intelligent, strategic, and exceptionally dangerous.
While many specifics are still unclear, the reported momentum behind the project indicates that DC Studios recognizes the potential in a villain team-up film. If it moves into production, Bane and Deathstroke could become two of the first significant antagonists to headline their own story in the new DC Universe.
