A recent post from director James Gunn has sparked excitement among fans as he unveiled a behind-the-scenes image from the set of the 2025 ‘Superman’.

The photo features Superman and Supergirl in costume, both appearing relaxed and cheerful on set. Superman dons his iconic blue suit adorned with the red and gold “S” symbol, while Supergirl is also dressed in her blue outfit. The backdrop showcases part of the film set, complete with crew members and equipment.

James Gunn accompanied the image with a brief caption stating, “First ever photo of the cousins together on the set of #Superman. #Supergirl is in theaters in one month!” This announcement serves as the primary source of the news and the only official detail shared.

Fans quickly responded, as this marks the first instance of both characters being showcased together during production. The timing of the caption also serves as an excellent promotion for the upcoming ‘Supergirl’ movie.

Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and penned by Ana Nogueira, will be the second film in the new DC Universe (DCU) spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios.

Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl, joined by Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. The narrative follows Supergirl as she embarks on a violent quest for revenge across the galaxy, presenting a darker interpretation of the character compared to previous portrayals.

The project has undergone numerous changes over the years. Initially, a Supergirl film was in development under the previous DC Extended Universe in 2018, and the character was briefly featured in The Flash (2023), portrayed by Sasha Calle. Following the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios in 2022, plans were reset, leading to a new version of the film being announced in 2023.

The movie draws inspiration from the comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Ana Nogueira was brought on as writer, and Milly Alcock was cast in early 2024. Craig Gillespie joined as director later that year. Filming occurred between January and May 2025 in England and Scotland, including Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and various locations in London.

Supergirl is set to be released on June 26, and is part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
