‘Spider-Noir’ Star Nicolas Cage Discusses Potential Role in True Detective Season 5

In a recent interview with Variety, Nicolas Cage opened up about various aspects of his career, including his extensive experience with superhero films and his latest ventures in television. One topic of interest was HBO’s crime anthology series ‘True Detective’, which is currently in the works for its fifth season.

Cage clarified that he is not officially attached to the show and has no confirmed role at this time. While his name has surfaced in previous casting rumors, he emphasized that discussions are ongoing but no agreements have been made yet. He stated, “I have no idea. I think they’re working on the material, but I haven’t heard about it in quite some time. I’m not signed on to anything; we’re just talking.”

The actor expressed his admiration for the series, despite not having watched earlier seasons. He indicated a willingness to collaborate with showrunner Issa López, who is at the helm of the upcoming season, but reiterated that nothing is set in stone.

His remarks align with previous updates from HBO executives. Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Film, informed Deadline that ‘True Detective’ Season 5 is in the early stages of development and is anticipated to begin filming soon, with casting still being finalized. She mentioned that the new season will take place in New York, specifically Jamaica Bay, with a potential release window in 2027.

Orsi also noted that the writers’ room is active and scripts are currently being crafted. She described the project as still in its infancy, with casting being a crucial step before production can commence.

‘True Detective’ Season 4, titled ‘Night Country’, premiered in 2024 and featured Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. It centered around an investigation in Alaska and became one of the most discussed installments of the series, with Foster earning an Emmy for her performance. The forthcoming Season 5 will introduce a new narrative with fresh characters, maintaining the anthology format.

For now, Cage’s participation remains uncertain. His comments indicate that there may be discussions taking place behind the scenes, but fans should not anticipate any confirmation until HBO officially reveals the cast.

As Cage summarized in his interview, there is interest, but nothing is finalized yet, and the project is still evolving.
