‘The Testaments’ Creator Confirms Long-Awaited June and Hannah Reunion in Future Seasons
Fans of the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ universe have received the long-awaited update they’ve been hoping for. ‘The Testaments’ creator Bruce Miller has confirmed that June Osborne and her daughter Hannah, now known as Agnes in Gilead, will reunite in a future season of the Hulu series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter following the emotional season one finale, Miller discussed the overarching narrative plan and emphasized that the reunion is indeed on the horizon. “I am planning to get June and Hannah/Agnes together by the end,” he stated.
This moment has been a focal point since ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ first aired. June has spent years battling against Gilead while desperately trying to rescue Hannah, who was taken from her as a child. Even after her own escape from Gilead, June has never ceased her search for her daughter. The final season of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ concluded with June still holding onto hope.
Now, ‘The Testaments’ has brought the narrative one step closer.
The season one finale revealed to Agnes that June is her biological mother, marking one of the series’ most emotional moments to date. Agnes grew up believing that June was a dangerous terrorist opposing Gilead, and learning the truth significantly alters her perception of herself and her family.
Bruce Miller elaborated that Agnes is just beginning to comprehend who June truly is. “She starts to get the nature of her mother, and connect with the nature of her mother,” he shared with The Hollywood Reporter. He also noted that Agnes is starting to recognize that she possesses the same strength and rebellious spirit as June.
This was clearly illustrated in the finale. Agnes discovering the old drawing with her real name “Hannah” written on it served as a powerful callback for longtime fans, proving that a piece of her original identity has endured all these years, even within Gilead.
Miller expressed his desire for the reunion to feel organic rather than rushed. He aims for viewers to fully understand both June and Agnes before they finally meet again. “I hope we are making progress towards them getting to know each other as people now, so that when we do finally get them together, you feel like you’ve had a long time to understand and think about how that moment is going to be,” he explained.

The creator also teased that the reunion will not mark the conclusion of the story. He hinted at the potential for further exploration after June and Hannah come together. According to Miller, Agnes still has a life and family awaiting her outside Gilead, including Luke, Nichole, and Moira.
Season two of ‘The Testaments’ is already in the works, and the finale indicated that Agnes, Daisy, and their friends are gradually beginning to resist Gilead. Miller described the narrative as one focused on friendship, sisterhood, and survival.
For now, fans may need to wait a bit longer for the reunion they’ve desired for years. However, after Bruce Miller’s recent comments, one thing is clear: June and Hannah’s story is moving toward the moment viewers have been anticipating since the very beginning.
