‘The Odyssey’ Star Matt Damon Praises Charlize Theron as a Genetic Lottery Winner
Matt Damon has openly praised Charlize Theron, highlighting both her talent and her remarkable aging process. He expressed that she has “won the genetic lottery” as she still resembles her younger self from decades ago.
These remarks were made during an interview with ELLE magazine, where Damon reflected on their long history of collaboration. The duo first appeared together 26 years ago in the 2000 film ‘The Legend of Bagger Vance’, and they are now reuniting for Sir Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’.
Damon noted that seeing Theron again after so many years made him realize how little she has changed. He humorously remarked, “I don’t know why only one of us aged. She won the genetic lottery.”
His comments quickly gained traction online after being published by ELLE magazine, which conducted the interview. Fans responded positively to both the humor and admiration in his words.
Damon also spoke earnestly about Theron, describing her as someone he has always supported and respected. He stated, “She’s somebody I’ve always really rooted for because if you know her, it’s impossible not to root for her. She’s just a formidable woman and a great, great actress.”
Currently filming ‘The Odyssey’, Damon shared insights about the challenging shooting conditions. He revealed that parts of the film were shot in Morocco, where the cast faced harsh weather on a windy beach.
Damon described the extreme conditions and praised Theron for her resilience during production. He explained that the wind was so strong it made filming uncomfortable, saying, “She had to do these scenes that were already challenging with a 30- to 40-mile-an-hour wind ripping sand into her eyes.”
Despite the tough environment, Damon noted that Theron continued to work without complaints. He commended her professionalism, stating she pushed through discomfort while delivering her performance. He remarked, “She’s just a boss, though. The grips were trying to hold screens over, anything that we could do so that we could shoot. But even with all that stuff, she was in massive discomfort, and you wouldn’t know it from seeing the movie.”
Damon explained that Theron rarely voices complaints on set. He mentioned that she only spoke up when conditions became unbearable, saying, “I’ve known her for so long, and she is one of those people who won’t complain, ever. And so, when she finally had to say: ‘I literally – I’m so sorry, I can’t keep my eyes open,’ she was angry.”
He added that even in that moment, he felt she was being too hard on herself, stating, “I think that was probably tougher on her than anything. And I’m like: ‘Charlize, no human being could keep their eyes open, this is ridiculous. Why didn’t you say something earlier?’ That’s her. She is seriously tough,” he said.
The interview has attracted attention not only for Damon’s praise but also for showcasing the long-standing working relationship between the two actors and the challenging conditions of their new film. ELLE magazine’s interview reveals a more personal side of Damon’s views on Theron, blending humor, respect, and admiration in his comments.
