British actor Aaron Pierre has been steadily carving out an impressive career in Hollywood, and currently, the industry is buzzing about him. Known for his powerful performance in Netflix’s 2024 action thriller ‘Rebel Ridge,’ Pierre has consistently combined martial arts training, including boxing and jiu-jitsu, with strength training and calisthenics, even during breaks between roles. This solid foundation has positioned him perfectly for the physically demanding superhero roles he is now embracing.

Pierre is set to portray John Stewart, the legendary Green Lantern, in the HBO series ‘Lanterns,’ which is expected to premiere in August. This gritty mystery series follows Stewart and his fellow Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, as they navigate a dark, Earth-based murder investigation.

James Gunn has described the show as grounded and unlike any superhero production audiences have encountered before, and Pierre has immersed himself in preparation with a focus that has become his trademark.

This commitment is now evident in a striking way. Mr. Media shared a screenshot from Pierre’s personal Instagram, showcasing the actor poolside and looking incredibly fit ahead of filming for ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ the eagerly awaited sequel to 2025’s ‘Superman.’

Pierre has officially joined the cast of the James Gunn-directed sequel, which is set to release on July 9, 2027. This casting reflects Gunn’s broader vision of integrating the DC movies and television shows into a cohesive story universe.

The sequel brings back David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, who team up to confront the technological alien menace Brainiac, portrayed by German actor Lars Eidinger. Many of the original cast members are expected to return, including Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, meaning Pierre’s John Stewart will share the screen with another Green Lantern.

The cosmic nature of the story makes Stewart’s inclusion feel organic rather than forced, as both Superman and Brainiac have extraterrestrial backgrounds that naturally connect with the intergalactic scope of the Green Lantern Corps.

Pierre has previously described his preparation for the role as a blend of physical training and what he refers to as “DC homework,” indicating he is leaving no stone unturned in exploring comics, animated series, and past film adaptations.

He has discussed his efforts to gain muscle and adhere to a strict diet, with Newsweek reporting that Pierre attributes his meticulous nature as a significant advantage in his training. The poolside photo circulating online suggests that this regimen is paying off, and fans have been vocal in their approval.

Pierre’s journey to this point has been gradual, with earlier roles including Malcolm X in the ‘Genius’ anthology series and Brendan in M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Old,’ as well as voicing Mufasa in the 2024 animated film ‘Mufasa: The Lion King.’ James Gunn, speaking at New York Comic Con, expressed that Pierre was someone he had long wanted to work with, and that witnessing him read alongside Kyle Chandler was “one of those miraculous moments.”

With ‘Lanterns’ set to debut this summer and ‘Man of Tomorrow’ on the horizon, the next year could be pivotal in transforming Pierre from a rising star into a cornerstone of the DC franchise. Are you excited to see Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart finally transition from ‘Lanterns’ to the big screen in ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ and does this physique update boost your confidence in his portrayal of the character?
