According to reports from PEOPLE and statements from representatives for the actress, ‘Off Campus’ star Mika Abdalla and actor Jake Short have called off their engagement and are no longer together.

The news of their split was confirmed following increasing public curiosity about Abdalla’s personal life. A representative for the actress released a statement addressing the situation and requesting privacy as both individuals move forward separately.

The representative stated, “Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together.” The statement also emphasized that the former couple remains supportive of one another. “They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”

Abdalla, 26, and Short, 29, were together for approximately four years. Their relationship began after they met while working on the 2022 Hulu comedy ‘Sex Appeal’. In the film, the two actors portrayed romantic interests on screen, but their bond eventually blossomed off camera as well.

In earlier interviews, Abdalla fondly recalled their first meeting. During an appearance on The American High Podcast in 2024, she shared her experience arriving in Syracuse, New York, where the movie was filmed. She mentioned approaching Short to introduce herself, leading to hours of conversation.

She explained, “I came over just to say hi and we ended up talking — not about the script, just talking and getting to know each other for hours.”

Their friendship deepened while they worked on the film. Abdalla later revealed that they spent time reviewing the script together and bonding during production. Over time, their relationship became serious, and fans closely followed their journey on social media and through interviews.

Engagement rumors first surfaced in 2024 when Short jokingly proposed to Abdalla during a podcast appearance. Although the moment was lighthearted, speculation about their engagement continued to grow in the following months. In 2025, Short’s manager appeared to confirm the engagement in an Instagram post celebrating the couple and their future together.

Despite the public speculation, neither Abdalla nor Short had elaborated on their engagement before the breakup was announced.

The announcement comes as Abdalla continues her work on the second season of ‘Off Campus’. The series, based on the popular novels by Elle Kennedy, has helped her reach a broader audience. In the upcoming season, her character Allie will navigate her complicated relationship with Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn.

Recently, Abdalla shared insights about the new season, explaining that both characters enter this chapter with emotional baggage from past experiences. She stated, “Both of these people’s fears and insecurities have just been reinforced.” She added that their relationship begins from a challenging place and that both characters have personal growth to achieve before progressing.

For now, both Abdalla and Short seem focused on their individual careers. While their relationship has ended, the statement from Abdalla’s representative indicates that there is no public conflict between them. Instead, they are choosing to move forward separately while maintaining mutual respect and support for one another.
