Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Discusses Maddy’s Jacuzzi Scene in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has finally addressed one of the most discussed moments in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, specifically the scene involving his character Alamo and Maddy, portrayed by Alexa Demie. The actor clarified the controversy and confusion surrounding their jacuzzi encounter.
In an interview with Us Weekly at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party, Akinnuoye-Agbaje explained that the scene was crafted to feel layered and tense from the outset. He mentioned that the interaction was meticulously planned with ‘Euphoria’ creator Sam Levinson, emphasizing that Alamo’s actions were intentional rather than impulsive.
He elaborated on how the character orchestrated everything in advance, stating, “It was an interesting scene because it’s so layered. It’s very loaded.” He noted that Alamo had control over the situation from the very beginning, including the ambiance and how the moment unfolded.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje further explained that Alamo had meticulously planned the entire setup. He remarked, “From the bathing suit to the music to the champagne, he knew exactly what he was going to do.” According to him, the scene aimed to illustrate manipulation and control rather than a mere romantic or playful encounter.
One of the most significant questions from viewers was whether Alamo and Maddy actually had sex during the scene. The show left this ambiguous, leading to speculation online after the episode aired. Akinnuoye-Agbaje addressed this directly while still allowing for some interpretation.
He stated, “To answer your question, did he sleep with her? Well, he was not there to play with her toes. For what she’s asking him to do — take out a life and give a million dollars — yeah, he most definitely did what he needed to do with that beautiful lady.”
The confusion began earlier in the season when Alamo and Maddy shared a hot tub scene. During this moment, Alamo invites Maddy to change into a swimsuit and join him, leading to a conversation about a deal involving a substantial sum of money to assist Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. The scene concludes before anything explicit is depicted.

Later in the season finale, the two characters meet again at Alamo’s strip club. Their interaction becomes more intimate, with Alamo suggesting a future together and making physical advances toward Maddy. This scene also cuts away before fully revealing what occurs, adding to the uncertainty.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje emphasized that Alamo’s actions were always intended to reflect power and manipulation rather than romance. He also responded to fan reactions, expressing understanding of the strong responses but maintaining that he does not engage with how viewers interpret the narrative.
He remarked, “Look, it’s a voracious fan base. It’s really their show. It preceded me. I’ve done my part. Whatever they say and do is their part, so that’s where I leave it.”
The actor also reflected on the future of ‘Euphoria’, suggesting that even if the main storyline concludes, there are still numerous characters and narratives that could be explored. He pointed out that the show’s universe is vast and could continue through different perspectives if the creators ever decide to revisit it.
For now, ‘Euphoria’ continues to stream on HBO Max, with Season 3 still sparking discussions among fans regarding its most controversial and ambiguous moments.
