‘Wicked’ Star Cynthia Erivo Shares Her Dream Role as Storm in the MCU
Cynthia Erivo has revealed her dream role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressing a long-standing desire to portray Storm from the X-Men.
In a recent interview with Variety Spotlight, Erivo shared that this aspiration has been with her since childhood. While she is currently focused on her ongoing projects, the opportunity to embody a superhero like Storm remains deeply personal and significant to her.
“It would take a lot to get me back to do it. It has to make sense,” Erivo mentioned when discussing the possibility of returning for another Wicked film. She also emphasized that there have been no serious discussions about future installments at this time.
During the same conversation, Erivo spoke about the types of roles she aspires to explore in her career. Among these is her desire to collaborate with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro on a creature or monster role. However, the most surprising revelation was her direct mention of Marvel.
“Storm from the X-Men, which I call a childhood fantasy of mine,” she stated, highlighting her admiration for the character and her eagerness to bring her to life on screen.
The X-Men franchise is currently undergoing development for a reboot at Marvel Studios, although it is still in the early stages. Director Jake Schreier, who is attached to the project, noted that development is ongoing and the final direction of the film is still being determined.
In a recent interview with Collider, Schreier addressed the casting rumors circulating online regarding the project. He clarified that much of the information shared online does not originate from the production team.
“We’re talking about things, we’re thinking about things. I can tell you most of the stuff that gets posted online, I don’t know where it comes from, because it doesn’t come from our room, and it isn’t what we’re discussing. But there is a process,” Schreier explained.
In recent months, various actors have been speculated by fans and online reports for potential roles in the reboot, including names like Hunter Schafer as Mystique, Odessa A’Zion as Rogue, and Peter Claffey as Beast. However, none of these casting choices have been confirmed by Marvel Studios.
Schreier also mentioned that the screenplay is still being developed and revised. Writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are currently working on the script, indicating that casting decisions are not expected to be finalized anytime soon.
As he elaborated, the creative team is still in the early phases of defining the film’s tone and narrative. Consequently, it remains uncertain when official announcements regarding the cast will be made or what direction the X-Men reboot will ultimately take.
For now, Erivo’s comments have only heightened excitement around the project, particularly among fans who have long envisioned her taking on the role of Storm in a future Marvel film.
