Supergirl and Superman’s First Meeting in the DCU Teased in New Clip
With the release of ‘Supergirl’ just around the corner, excitement surrounding the DCU is rapidly increasing.
Directed with inspiration from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ comic, the film aims to expand the new DC universe, featuring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and a returning David Corenswet as Superman.
To celebrate the countdown, Warner Bros has unveiled a clip that offers fans their first glimpse of Superman and Supergirl’s initial on-screen encounter in the DCU timeline. The clip depicts Clark Kent arriving at the Fortress of Solitude shortly after Kara’s ship lands on Earth. She arrives with Krypto, who immediately shows suspicion towards Superman, creating an awkward and tense introduction between the Kryptonian relatives.
The moment is further complicated by the language barrier, as Kara speaks Kryptonian while Clark does not, leading to confusion during their first interaction. Nevertheless, Clark attempts to ease the situation and reassure her. In the clip, he tells Kara, “there’s a lot more to Earth than just this place: big city, lots of stuff to do, and you’ll also learn to love this place, just like I have. I promise.”
This clip, first shared through Warner Bros in collaboration with entertainment coverage partners, highlights the stark differences in Kara and Clark’s experiences of Krypton and Earth. Clark was raised on Earth after being sent away as an infant, while Kara seems to have lived through the destruction of Krypton more directly, carrying a heavier emotional burden. This contrast is crucial to understanding how their relationship is expected to evolve in the DCU.
Krypto also plays a significant role in the scene. The dog is immediately protective of Kara and remains cautious of Clark, despite him not being a threat. This continues the established portrayal of Krypto as emotionally reactive and deeply bonded to Kara, reinforcing her limited trust in her new surroundings.
Another small yet notable detail in the clip is Kara’s reaction to Superman’s costume. The scene incorporates humor as she questions his outfit, reflecting how alien Earth customs appear to her. It also underscores Kara’s ongoing adjustment to Earth’s culture and norms, even as she begins to develop her powers under the yellow sun.
According to Warner Bros promotional material and coverage related to the clip’s release, this meeting is positioned as a pivotal early moment in Kara’s journey. It showcases her arrival at the Fortress of Solitude and hints at her initial adaptation period before she fully integrates into Earth society.
The sequence also suggests that Kara’s language barrier is likely temporary, potentially resolved through Kryptonian technology within the Fortress or assistance from Superman’s systems. While the exact timeline remains unclear, it is implied that this meeting occurs early in both characters’ shared history on Earth.
As ‘Supergirl’ approaches its release, this first meeting between Superman and Supergirl is framed as an emotional foundation for their relationship in the DCU, illustrating how two very different survivors of Krypton strive to understand each other while navigating what Earth means to them.
