‘Masters of the Universe’ is currently showing in theaters and features two end-credits scenes that hint at future developments for the franchise. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Travis Knight elaborated on the significance of both scenes and how they tie into potential upcoming narratives. He also mentioned that one of the scenes nearly didn’t make it into the final cut due to production challenges.

The story follows Prince Adam of Eternia, portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine, who grows up on Earth, far removed from his home and the looming threat of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. By the film’s conclusion, Adam fully embraces his identity as He-Man after defeating Skeletor and aiding in the restoration of peace to Eternos. However, the narrative does not completely wrap up.

In the first post-credits scene, Duncan, also known as Man-at-Arms and played by Idris Elba, is seen alongside Queen Marlena, portrayed by Charlotte Riley. They survey a rebuilt Eternos, recovering from the devastation wrought by Skeletor’s reign. Although the city is on the mend, the emotional aftermath of recent events lingers.

Queen Marlena expresses her despair over the possibility of reuniting with her family. Duncan attempts to uplift her spirits, stating, “perhaps one day she’ll come back to us too.” This moment teases a long-awaited development for fans: the potential introduction of Princess Adora, also known as She-Ra.

The scene transitions to a mysterious woman, shown only from behind. She has long blonde hair, a red cape, and wields a glowing sword. While the film does not confirm her identity, it strongly implies the arrival of She-Ra.

In the original lore of ‘Masters of the Universe’, Adora is Prince Adam’s twin sister. Kidnapped as a baby, she was raised on the planet Etheria by the villain Hordak. Eventually, she discovers her true origins and transforms into She-Ra, a formidable warrior battling against evil.

Travis Knight explained that incorporating She-Ra into the film was a complex process. He noted, “Mattel created the character, but it’s a little bit like Marvel in the ’90s, how some of that stuff is carved out all over the place, and so it was a complicated rights issue. And so we could use her, [then] we couldn’t use her. She was in the movie, she was out of the movie. We always held tight to like, hopefully we could have her in there and we wrote the scene in such a way that it was modular, that we could use it if we got the chance and if we couldn’t.”

He added that the scene was included very late in the production process, with minimal budget remaining. The crew had to quickly construct a set using available materials. Despite these obstacles, they managed to film the sequence in just a few hours.

Knight also mentioned that if a sequel is made, She-Ra will play a significant role in the storyline.

The second end-credits scene centers on Evil-Lyn, played by Alison Brie. She returns to retrieve the remnants of Skeletor following his defeat. The film hints at his potential return, with Knight confirming that while Skeletor is not immortal, he remains a possibility for future narratives.

Together, both scenes clearly pave the way for new directions for the franchise, while leaving the door open for larger conflicts to come.
