Every time a new chapter of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man saga is unveiled, it seems to break records. The web-slinger has already achieved the biggest domestic opening weekend in MCU history and the highest-grossing superhero trilogy ever. Now, even before tickets go on sale, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is poised to claim yet another title.

AMC Theaters, one of North America’s largest cinema chains, has listed the upcoming Marvel Studios film with a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, a detail that has quickly spread across social media. Earlier listings from Shaw Theatres in Singapore and Cineworld in London suggested similar runtimes, with Shaw indicating 2 hours and 25 minutes and Cineworld matching the AMC listing at 150 minutes. While Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm the runtime, the alignment of multiple independent theater sources is hard to overlook.

If the two-and-a-half-hour runtime is accurate, ‘Brand New Day’ will become the longest Spider-Man film to date. It would also mark the MCU’s longest movie since 2022’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, which ran for 2 hours and 41 minutes, ranking as the fourth-longest film in MCU history overall, trailing behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Eternals’, and ‘Wakanda Forever’. For a standalone superhero film, this ambitious runtime is noteworthy.

The length is justified given the film’s content. Four years have passed since the events of ‘No Way Home’, and Peter Parker is now living alone after erasing himself from the memories of his loved ones. The film’s central conflict revolves around a strange wave of crime and an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film features a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the writing duo behind the previous Holland Spider-Man films. The cast is extensive, including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Newcomer Sadie Sink is also part of the principal cast in a role that remains undisclosed, though speculation suggests she may portray a prominent mutant character with telepathic abilities.

Cretton is known for his emphasis on practical action over heavy reliance on green screens, even enlisting Jackie Chan’s stunt team for the production. This commitment to physical filmmaking came at a price, as lead actor Tom Holland reportedly sustained an injury during a stunt, temporarily halting production.

The runtime of any Marvel film often reflects the studio’s confidence in the material. Longer runtimes are typically reserved for ensemble pieces or narratives with significant weight, making the reported length for this solo adventure feel like a strong statement. ‘Brand New Day’ aims to reestablish Spider-Man’s significance in a post-multiverse landscape where street-level storytelling has gained new stakes.

Tickets for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ are expected to go on sale on June 26, which is also when the official runtime is likely to be confirmed by the studio. Fans can anticipate new footage tied to the ticket launch, offering a first proper glimpse of the film’s full scope ahead of its July release.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31.
