‘Game of Thrones’ Star Kit Harington Calls Filming Sex Scenes With Sophie Turner Gross
Kit Harington has shared his thoughts on filming intimate scenes with Sophie Turner in their new movie ‘The Dreadful’, describing the experience as awkward and unusual due to their long-standing history together on ‘Game of Thrones’.
These comments emerged during a Variety “Actors on Actors” conversation with fellow actor Peter Dinklage, and have garnered significant attention in the entertainment media.
Harington, 39, and Turner, 30, have a close bond from years of collaboration on ‘Game of Thrones’, where they both began their careers as young actors and matured on the same set over nearly a decade. Turner was just 14 when she started filming the series, while Harington was in his early twenties. Their characters were part of the same family storyline, making their new romantic relationship on-screen feel particularly unusual.
In ‘The Dreadful’, the two actors portray romantic partners in a story set in 15th-century England, focusing on a woman living in isolation whose life is disrupted by the return of someone from her past. The transition from family members in a long-running series to lovers in a dark drama created what Harington described as a strange experience.
During the Variety interview, Harington recounted his initial reaction to the script, saying, “It was weird. She sent me the script and I said, ‘Sophie, there’s a lot of us getting it on.’” He noted that Turner was unaware of the number of intimate scenes involved when she recommended him for the role.
He also reflected on how their real-life connection complicated the filming process. Harington remarked, “It was gross, but it was fine.” He explained that because he has known Turner since she was a child, he still perceives her in a familiar, almost family-like manner, which made the romantic scenes feel uncomfortable initially.
Despite this discomfort, he emphasized his respect for her talent, calling Turner a “phenomenal” actress and commending her preparation and professionalism on set. Dinklage echoed these sentiments, stating that he believes Turner is one of the strongest performers on the show and praised her focus and energy.
The conversation also touched on broader acting choices, with Harington mentioning that he has recently found himself taking on more roles involving nudity and intimacy. He admitted that this has led him to consider how these scenes might be perceived in the future, especially by his children.
He stated, “I’m weirdly doing a lot of nudity at the moment, and sex scenes. The more I do it, the more I think, ‘I think I should stop.’ I’ve got to start thinking about my kids, like, ‘Why is Daddy always naked on-screen?’”
Dinklage responded humorously, suggesting that children will inevitably ask questions, joking about how those conversations might unfold as they grow older.
‘The Dreadful’, directed by Natasha Kermani, marks a significant departure for Harington and Turner compared to their extensive history on ‘Game of Thrones’. While the experience was undoubtedly unusual for both actors, they have characterized it as professional and ultimately manageable.

The discussion has attracted attention primarily due to the close ties their past work has to family roles on screen. Transitioning from that type of relationship to romantic scenes naturally created discomfort, but both actors have highlighted their mutual respect and professionalism throughout the filming process.
