Sophie Thatcher Discusses Potential Role in Marvel’s X-Men Reboot
Sophie Thatcher is candidly addressing the ongoing fan speculation connecting her to the Marvel Studios X-Men reboot, particularly regarding the role of Rogue. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, she acknowledged the fan art and rumors circulating online, leaving the door open for a possible future in the franchise.
Thatcher shared that she is aware of the fan casting and online conversations. She remarked, “I see what I [get] tagged in. Yeah. And I’m like, interesting.” While she hasn’t confirmed any involvement, she expressed her openness to the role if the circumstances are right.
She emphasized the importance of collaborating with a director who values her input. As she stated, “I’m open if it’s a director who’s down to collaborate and listen to me. I want to have a voice.” Additionally, she highlighted that the story must feel significant and thoughtfully crafted, especially considering the scale and impact of Marvel projects.
Thatcher further noted that major franchises come with a sense of responsibility. She mentioned, “I would just want to make sure it’s the right story… not just spreading violence and shock value, but something meaningful.” Her remarks indicate a preference for quality storytelling over simply taking on a high-profile superhero role for visibility.
When asked about her knowledge of the X-Men universe, Thatcher admitted she isn’t deeply familiar with the franchise. She humorously remarked, “It’s the blue people? So, I’m going to get a lot of hate on that one.” She also cited Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Mystique as one of her main reference points.
This discussion arises amid increasing casting rumors for Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot. While Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm any cast members, speculation continues to mount online, with several young actors being associated with key mutant roles.
There is also broader conversation regarding the reboot’s structure. Reports suggest it could feature either a younger version of the team or a more established lineup inspired by X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97. Marvel has not disclosed which direction it will pursue.
Director Jake Schreier, who is involved with the project, has previously stated that much of what circulates online is inaccurate. He mentioned that many rumors do not reflect the actual discussions taking place behind the scenes, although he confirmed that work is ongoing.
Thatcher’s name has frequently surfaced among fans as a potential modern interpretation of Rogue, a character known in Marvel comics for her ability to absorb powers through touch and her complex journey from villain to hero. While nothing has been officially confirmed, fan interest in her casting continues to rise.
Currently, Marvel Studios has not announced a release date for the X-Men reboot, though industry reports suggest it may still be several years away.
