Actress Annabelle Wallis once recounted a surprising and somewhat awkward experience while filming The Mummy with Tom Cruise, revealing how a planned romantic scene unexpectedly didn’t make it to the final cut.

During an appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien in February 2017, Wallis humorously reflected on the moment she discovered that a kissing scene with Cruise would not take place. While she approached the situation with a lighthearted attitude, she admitted to feeling genuinely disappointed.

When the host inquired about the absent scene, Wallis described it as “a very sad day for Annabelle,” explaining her excitement about filming a romantic moment with one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

She had envisioned this scene as a significant highlight for her character and even joked about how she would share the experience with her friends and family afterward.

Wallis vividly recalled, “There was another amorous moment, a little kissing scene. And I got to set and was like, ‘This is an amazing moment.’ I would tell all my friends, my children, about this kissing scene with Tom Cruise.”

However, things took a turn once filming began. Wallis approached Cruise on set in a playful and confident manner, jokingly telling him, “C’mon Tom, it’s about to be the best day of your life.”

According to her account, Cruise requested to speak with director Alex Kurtzman. During their conversation, he expressed discomfort with the kissing scene, stating it didn’t fit the story. Wallis noted that he made this decision quite suddenly and in front of a large crew, intensifying the moment.

She humorously described the experience, saying, “And he talked himself out of kissing me in front of 900 people. Can you imagine what I felt like? Not good.”

Host Conan O’Brien reacted with shock and playful frustration during the interview, while the audience responded with laughter and applause as Wallis shared her story, making it a memorable moment on the show.

The discussion around this incident later spread online, with fans debating Cruise’s decision. Some viewers defended him, suggesting that the romantic moment didn’t align with the film’s tone or the characters’ dynamics, while others found it to be an amusing behind-the-scenes anecdote involving two major Hollywood stars.

The Mummy (2017), directed by Alex Kurtzman, was intended to kick off a larger shared universe for Universal’s classic monster characters. The film featured Tom Cruise alongside Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, and Russell Crowe.

Wallis’s story continues to circulate as a quirky behind-the-scenes moment, illustrating how creative decisions on set can lead to unexpected and very public surprises for the actors involved.
