Colin Farrell has provided an exciting update regarding his return as Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, in ‘The Batman Part II’. The actor shared insights about the film during a recent interview with Collider while promoting his Apple TV series ‘Sugar’.

Farrell confirmed that production for the sequel is set to commence very soon. He mentioned that the cast and crew are preparing to return to Gotham, but his own filming schedule will begin a bit later. He explained that others will start filming first, with him joining a few weeks afterward.

He noted, “They start, I think, in a week.” Farrell added a humorous touch by saying he isn’t in a position to invite anyone to the set, bringing a lighthearted moment to the interview.

Farrell expressed his enthusiasm for the project and the creative team involved. He praised director Matt Reeves, stating that the script for the sequel is exceptionally strong. He described Reeves as someone who invests a lot of care into the storytelling and the world of Gotham.

He remarked, “The script, I’ve said before, and you know, I said it to you, it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells. I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”

His comments imply that the Penguin will still feature in the sequel, albeit possibly not as a central character this time. This makes sense, considering the character had significant focus in the spin-off series ‘The Penguin’, which explored his ascent in Gotham’s criminal underworld. Consequently, ‘The Batman Part II’ may utilize him in a smaller yet still pivotal role.

‘The Batman Part II’ continues the narrative established in Matt Reeves’ 2022 film ‘The Batman’, which starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. That film crafted a darker interpretation of Gotham City and left numerous storylines open for future installments.

Robert Pattinson is confirmed to reprise his role as Batman. He recently indicated that the sequel will involve an extensive filming schedule, mentioning there will be “11 weeks of night shoots,” highlighting how much of the movie will unfold in Gotham’s dark and nighttime atmosphere.

The cast is also expected to feature returning actors like Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. New names have surfaced in connection with the project, hinting at additional characters from Gotham’s universe.

‘The Batman Part II’ is slated for release on October 1, 2027. The film is directed by Matt Reeves, who co-wrote the script alongside Mattson Tomlin.

For now, fans will need to be patient, but Farrell’s update confirms that the return to Gotham is imminent, and filming is about to kick off.
