Netflix has officially announced the continuation of its period drama House of Guinness, providing fans with clarity about the show’s future after months of speculation. This update confirms that the series will return for a second season, furthering the narrative of the renowned Irish brewing family first introduced in season one.

As reported by Variety, Netflix has greenlit season two of House of Guinness. Production is anticipated to commence in early 2027. However, the streaming service has yet to make any official public statement regarding the renewal.

Created by Stephen Knight, known for his work on Peaky Blinders, the series is set in 1860s Ireland and chronicles the powerful Guinness family following the death of their patriarch, Sir Benjamin Guinness. His passing leaves behind a brewing empire and ignites a fierce struggle among his heirs as they vie for control and expansion of the business.

The first season delves deeply into family tension, ambition, and political unrest in Ireland during a tumultuous historical period. The narrative intertwines personal rivalries with broader social conflicts, illustrating how the Guinness family’s influence resonates with the world around them. The show is produced by Banijay-owned Kudos.

Upon its launch in September 2025, the series quickly captured attention for its dramatic tone and style. Many viewers likened it to a blend of Succession and Peaky Blinders, highlighting its focus on power struggles within a wealthy family and its gritty historical backdrop.

The cast features Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O’Shea, portraying members of the Guinness family. Other notable cast members include James Norton, Niamh McCormack, Jack Gleeson, Seamus O’Hara, Michael McElhatton, David Wilmot, Dervla Kirwan, Danielle Galligan, and Ann Skelly.

The first season received positive reviews in various regions, with critics in both the United Kingdom and the United States describing the show as stylish, engaging, and well-produced. It also debuted with an impressive 89% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating strong early viewer interest.

However, the series did encounter some criticism, particularly in Ireland. Certain viewers and commentators pointed out historical inaccuracies in the portrayal of post-famine politics and anti-colonial movements. While the series presents itself as fiction inspired by real events, these concerns have sparked discussions about its interpretation of Irish history.

The first season concluded with a significant cliffhanger involving key characters, leaving audiences eager for a continuation. Stephen Knight had previously indicated plans for an extended story arc, telling the Irish Mirror that the series could expand significantly over time.

He stated, “We are going to do season two and three and four … we are going to do this all the way to the 1960s.”

Despite this long-term vision, there is some uncertainty regarding Knight’s involvement in future seasons. He is currently working on the upcoming James Bond film script, which may limit his availability during production.

Nonetheless, the renewal indicates that Netflix recognizes strong potential in the series. With production set for 2027, House of Guinness is poised to continue exploring the rise and challenges of one of Ireland’s most illustrious families.
