Sofía Vergara Shares What Detracts From Her World Cup Experience
Sofía Vergara is gearing up for a significant World Cup season, aiming to transform the global football event into a family-centered tradition once more, as revealed in an exclusive interview with The Sporting News.
The actress noted that the tournament has always been intertwined with her personal life, particularly her childhood memories in Colombia. She reminisced about how, in earlier years, the World Cup served as a time for families to gather, enjoy meals, and spend quality time together.
Vergara expressed: “I used to live in Colombia, and I have been in the United States for a long time.” She acknowledged that since moving, the World Cup has become a pivotal moment for her family to reconnect over their shared love of football.
She described the event as a reunion point, where some years she travels to visit relatives and other times they come to her. The main objective, she emphasized, is simply to be together while watching the matches.
Vergara elaborated: “But now that I’m away, the World Cup is when it happens now because, you know, the important thing is that we get together, or I go to Miami or they come here.”
This year, the World Cup holds even greater significance for her as she is involved in health awareness initiatives through the “Detect the SOS” campaign. Thanks to this partnership, she plans to attend games in person while striving to uphold family traditions.
She mentioned that the situation is thrilling yet complicated, as many relatives are requesting tickets. Vergara explained that while she can’t accommodate everyone, she is committed to ensuring family time remains integral to the experience.
She stated: “Now that I’m involved with the mission. I’m going to be there at the World Cup, and they’re asking me for tickets. I can’t bring my whole family, but when we’re together, it’s great. It’s all about eating and drinking and enjoying.”
Beyond football, Vergara is leveraging the World Cup platform to raise awareness about health issues, particularly within Latin communities. Through the Detect the SOS campaign, she is urging individuals to pay attention to conditions such as high blood pressure, kidney disease, and diabetes.
She explained that the campaign is close to her heart due to her mother’s health challenges. Vergara shared that her mother has struggled with high blood pressure, prompting her to take a more active role in managing it.
She noted that her mother sometimes forgets to take medication or skips doctor visits, which has led her to become a health advocate within the family. This personal experience inspired her to support the campaign and speak more candidly about prevention and early testing.
The campaign promotes awareness of early screening tests, including simple urine tests that can identify kidney issues before they escalate. Vergara highlighted that many individuals in Latin communities face similar health risks, making awareness particularly crucial.
As the World Cup draws near, Vergara views it as more than just a sporting event. For her, it represents a time when culture, family, and public awareness converge.
She believes the tournament offers a unique opportunity for millions to watch simultaneously, creating a powerful moment to share health messages while celebrating the football traditions that have always been a part of her life.
