Marvel fans are buzzing after the release of the new ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 trailer. This preview showcases many beloved characters returning for the next chapter of the animated series, while hinting at significant story developments that could reshape the future of the X-Men.

The footage reveals that Season 2 will see the return of most fan-favorite heroes from the first season. Characters like Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm, Rogue, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Forge, Bishop, Morph, and Wolverine are all confirmed to return. Additionally, the trailer highlights several other mutants, including Sunspot, Cable, Archangel, Emma Frost, Polaris, Havok, Multiple Man, Psylocke, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy, and Siryn. However, one character reveal has sparked more conversation than any other.

The trailer provides the first glimpse of Wolverine’s new look, indicating that Marvel is adapting one of the most controversial arcs from the character’s comic book history. Instead of his traditional appearance, Logan is depicted in his Feral Wolverine form, a version that previously divided fans when it debuted in Marvel Comics.

In the comics, Wolverine entered this state after Magneto forcefully removed the Adamantium from his skeleton, leaving him physically and mentally weakened. Subsequent attempts to restore him only exacerbated his condition, resulting in a more animalistic and less controlled version of Logan. His appearance underwent a dramatic transformation, making him appear far more savage than the Wolverine most readers were familiar with.

The trailer suggests that ‘X-Men ’97’ will follow a similar trajectory. Wolverine is shown wielding his natural bone claws, a crucial aspect of that storyline. Fans quickly observed that this animated version of Feral Wolverine appears different from the comic book design, with many commenting that the new iteration looks much more polished and visually appealing than the original comic interpretation.

Season 2 picks up after the intense conclusion of Season 1, where the X-Men found themselves scattered across various time periods and locations, leaving the team divided as new threats loom. Meanwhile, tensions between mutants and humans continue to escalate, presenting even more challenges for the heroes.

Another surprising moment in the trailer features Magneto. Despite the conflicts that arose between him and the X-Men during the first season, he appears to be collaborating with the team once again. The footage even shows Magneto discussing cooperation with Professor X and the X-Men.

This development is particularly intriguing because Magneto’s actions were pivotal in Wolverine’s current state. Comic fans know that Magneto was responsible for removing Wolverine’s Adamantium, and Season 2 seems poised to delve into the ramifications of that event.

The trailer’s final moments hint at the arrival of Apocalypse, who appears to be the main antagonist of the new season. His introduction has already ignited speculation among fans. In the comics, Apocalypse famously offered Wolverine a chance to regain his Adamantium by becoming one of his Horsemen. Some viewers believe the series could be setting up a similar storyline.

There is also increasing speculation that Gambit may return in some capacity. Many fans recall that Apocalypse transformed Gambit into a Horseman in the comics, and the new season might incorporate elements from that narrative as well.

While Marvel has yet to confirm how closely the show will adhere to the comic books, the trailer clearly indicates that ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 is gearing up for some of the most significant and dramatic storylines in the franchise’s history.

‘X-Men ’97’ returns to Disney+ on July 1 with a nine-episode second season.
