Matt Damon has expressed his openness to returning to the Jason Bourne franchise, indicating that he remains interested in revisiting the iconic role and is eager to hear new ideas for the story’s direction.

Damon, who first portrayed the amnesiac CIA assassin in 2002’s The Bourne Identity, revealed that discussions are ongoing behind the scenes about the possibility of continuing the series. He noted that the creative team has not dismissed the character and is actively exploring potential paths for a new installment.

He stated, “We’re always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them. So there’s always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story. So if you have anything, let us know.”

The Jason Bourne franchise has established itself as one of the most successful modern action series in Hollywood. It began with The Bourne Identity, followed by The Bourne Supremacy in 2004 and The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. Damon stepped away from the role in 2012 when the series shifted focus with The Bourne Legacy, which featured a different character played by Jeremy Renner. He later returned for Jason Bourne in 2016.

Over the years, the franchise has garnered impressive box office returns and critical acclaim for its realistic action and espionage storytelling. Collectively, the films have grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, making it one of Universal Pictures’ most valuable action properties.

The interview comes at a time when Universal is actively expanding its major franchises. NBCUniversal recently secured long-term rights to Robert Ludlum’s Bourne universe, ensuring that future films and potential spin-offs remain in development under producer Frank Marshall, who has been involved since the series’ inception.

Damon’s remarks suggest that while no official sequel has been announced, there is creative momentum behind the scenes. The actor emphasized the importance of finding the right story rather than rushing into another installment without a solid idea.

In addition to Jason Bourne, Damon is engaged in several high-profile projects. He is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey, and he is reportedly in talks for a new untitled project from Everything Everywhere All At Once directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, both under Universal Pictures.

Currently, there is no confirmed timeline for a new Bourne film. However, Damon’s eagerness to return, along with Universal’s ongoing interest in developing the franchise, keeps the possibility alive. His comments indicate that the character has not been retired, and any future return will hinge on discovering the right story to bring Jason Bourne back to the big screen.
