Milly Alcock is making headlines as she promotes the upcoming DC film ‘Supergirl’ during the events of the 2026 World Cup. Recently, she was spotted wearing a Brazil football jersey, capturing the attention of fans and media alike, both in the tournament and entertainment spheres.

‘Supergirl’ is part of the new DC Universe film series. This American superhero movie is based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El and is directed by Craig Gillespie with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. It marks the second installment in the new DC Universe being developed by DC Studios under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

In ‘Supergirl’, Milly Alcock takes on the lead role of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. The film features a talented cast, including Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. The narrative follows Supergirl as she embarks on a journey through space that evolves into a violent quest for revenge following a tragic event.

This film presents a darker interpretation of Supergirl compared to previous portrayals. Kara Zor-El is depicted as a survivor of Krypton’s destruction, shaped by a more painful and harsh perspective of the universe. Throughout her travels across various planets with her dog Krypto, she becomes embroiled in a revenge mission linked to a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll.

The character’s personality is portrayed as more rough and unpredictable than Superman’s. Producer James Gunn describes her as a “pixie-ish, but very attitudinal character.” He emphasized that she is crafted more as an antihero than a conventional superhero.

The development of the Supergirl character has seen several changes in recent years. Initially, a version of the film was proposed in 2018 under the previous DC Extended Universe. The project was later reimagined when James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios in 2022. The current iteration draws inspiration from the comic storyline ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

Milly Alcock’s casting was announced in early 2024, and she made her debut in the DC Universe with the 2025 film ‘Superman’, portrayed by David Corenswet. Filming for ‘Supergirl’ took place from January to May 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, along with various locations in London and Scotland.

The supporting cast features Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, who leads a gang of space criminals. Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl who motivates Supergirl to embark on her revenge mission. Jason Momoa joins the cast as Lobo, a bounty hunter character from DC Comics, adding significant star power to the film.

Other notable characters include David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze. Superman, played by David Corenswet, also makes an appearance, connecting the film to the broader DC Universe.

‘Supergirl’ is set to premiere in Brooklyn on June 22, followed by its wide release in the United States on June 26. This film is part of the inaugural chapter of the new DC Universe titled ‘Gods and Monsters.’
