Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ has become one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year. With the film set to hit theaters in just a month, the marketing campaign is gaining significant momentum.

Fans who have spent over a year piecing together leaked images and brief festival glimpses are preparing for a steady stream of new visuals leading up to the premiere. Nolan’s reputation for maintaining tight security on his sets makes each new image feel like a notable event.

The film reinterprets the journey of the Greek hero Odysseus as he strives to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War, encountering legendary challenges such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the sorceress Circe along the way.

The star-studded cast features Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. The production has garnered attention for being filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, a first for a feature-length film.

On June 17, a fan account shared a new image captioned “Christopher Nolan on set of ‘THE ODYSSEY’,” showcasing the director on a windswept, overcast beach with crew members nearby.

In the center of the frame is a massive, dark, shadowy horse sculpture resting on the sand.

At CinemaCon earlier this year, Nolan discussed his readiness to tackle Homer’s poem after previously attempting a different war epic decades ago. During the film’s presentation, covered by The Credits, he stated that ‘The Odyssey’ is not just a story; it is the story, highlighting the poem’s enduring impact on audiences for millennia. He also mentioned that the shoot was a challenging experience, but in all the right ways.

Damon shared his insights in a recent interview with TIME, reflecting on memorable filming locations, including a beach in Morocco. He noted that the site, used for scenes involving Calypso, is known as the kitesurfing capital of the world, a fitting detail given how often Odysseus and his crew find themselves stranded on unfamiliar shores throughout the narrative.

‘The Odyssey’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 17, marking Nolan’s first film since his Oscar-winning success with ‘Oppenheimer.’ With production completed and the press tour underway, images like this new beach photo are likely just the beginning of an exciting final month leading up to the release. Given the scale of the production and the secrecy surrounding it, every new glimpse is sure to ignite further online discussions.
