When a Hollywood star makes a splash at a premiere for a film they aren’t officially part of, it sparks conversation. This was the case when Adria Arjona graced the red carpet at the London premiere of ‘Supergirl’, dazzling in a striking red gown that captured the attention of every camera present.

Her attendance transformed what could have been a standard press event into one of the most talked-about moments in the DCU’s promotional campaign.

To grasp why the internet buzzed with excitement, it’s essential to take a step back. Arjona is currently dating Jason Momoa, who portrays the anti-hero Lobo in ‘Supergirl’. The film is set to premiere on June 26, featuring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, with Momoa making his DCU debut after six films as Aquaman.

Supporting a partner at a significant premiere is entirely reasonable. However, Arjona is not just any Hollywood girlfriend; she is an actress whose potential future in the DCU has been the focus of intense speculation for months.

Earlier this year, speculation reached a peak when Variety reported that Arjona had officially secured the role of alien warrior queen Maxima in James Gunn’s Superman sequel ‘Man of Tomorrow’, outshining finalists Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten for the role.

Created by Roger Stern and artist George Pérez, Maxima first appeared in Action Comics in 1989 as a powerful alien queen from Almerac who seeks Superman as a mate to enhance her royal lineage. This is a monumental role, and fans have been closely monitoring Arjona’s every move leading up to its announcement.

Things take an intriguing turn here. Despite multiple major outlets confirming the Maxima casting, a significant segment of the DCU fandom remains convinced that this role is merely a cover.

The prevailing theory suggests that Arjona may actually be set to portray Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, a fan casting that James Gunn has previously expressed support for. Some reports indicate that there is division among the trades regarding whether Arjona is genuinely playing Maxima or if the announcement is a strategic move to hide her true character ahead of a more significant reveal.

The speculation intensified during the ‘Supergirl’ press tour. When Momoa was interviewed by Screen Rant’s Ash Crossan, he was asked which future DCU characters he would like to see alongside Lobo. Unprompted, he mentioned Wonder Woman, the very hero many fans believe Arjona is secretly portraying in ‘Man of Tomorrow’. When the interviewer expressed support for Arjona, Momoa’s response was simply, “She’s hot.” twice. This non-answer only fuels the rumor mill further.

Arjona’s appearance at the ‘Supergirl’ premiere also highlights her current career trajectory. Known for her acclaimed role in the Star Wars series ‘Andor’, her credits include ‘Hit Man’, ‘Blink Twice’, and ‘Father of the Bride’. She is also set to star alongside Michael B. Jordan in an Amazon MGM remake of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’. Arjona is not just a supporting actress; she is a leading lady whose role within the DCU is clearly being strategically managed.

If Arjona is indeed taking on the role of Wonder Woman in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, it would be logical for DC Studios to want to control the announcement, given the significance of such a reveal for the new DC Universe. A premiere appearance in a memorable red dress, front and center at the summer’s biggest DCU event, is precisely the kind of subtle yet powerful brand-building a studio employs to position an actress as integral to their universe before the official announcement.

‘Supergirl’ is set to hit theaters on June 26, with ‘Man of Tomorrow’ following in July 2027. The answers will come eventually. Until then, every red carpet appearance serves as a clue.
