‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 First Look at Daeron Targaryen and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is experiencing a remarkable rise in his career. The young British actor has quickly become one of the most sought-after talents in genre television and film. With his debut as Daeron Targaryen in ‘House of the Dragon’, fans are finally getting a glimpse of an actor poised for a significant breakthrough.
For two seasons, ‘House of the Dragon’ has hinted at Daeron’s presence without ever showing him. The youngest son of Alicent Hightower was sent to Oldtown as a child, living under the care of her cousin Ormund Hightower while the rest of his family became embroiled in the civil war ravaging the Seven Kingdoms.
His absence has been notable, especially considering the substantial role he plays in George R.R. Martin’s source material, leading to growing anticipation among fans for his eventual appearance.
His casting was initially confirmed through a Sky Italia listing, but HBO remained unusually silent about the announcement, sparking speculation among fans regarding the network’s decision to keep details about Daeron’s storyline under wraps.
Now that the season has premiered, keen-eyed viewers have spotted him in the background of the new trailer prior to the season’s launch, a blurry figure behind Ormund Hightower that could easily be overlooked if not specifically searched for.
In ‘Fire & Blood’, Daeron is portrayed quite differently from his brothers Aegon and Aemond. He matures into a courteous and warm-hearted young man who proves his mettle on the battlefield, riding his dragon Tessarion to rescue Lord Ormund Hightower’s army during the Battle of the Honeywine, earning the title Daeron the Daring.
This character arc is perfect for adaptation, and fans have eagerly awaited its portrayal for years.
Ainsworth has previously starred in ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’, ‘The Sandman’, and Disney’s ‘Pinocchio’, establishing himself in high-profile projects before securing one of the most coveted roles in the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe.
His performances in these roles suggest a range that fits Daeron, who must embody both the gentleness of a prince raised away from conflict and the urgency of someone suddenly thrust into the chaos of war.

What makes Ainsworth’s role particularly noteworthy is that Daeron is not even his most significant upcoming character. In July of last year, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto announced via official Nintendo social media that Ainsworth would portray Link in the live-action ‘The Legend of Zelda’ film, alongside Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. Miyamoto expressed his excitement about seeing both actors on the big screen.
The film, directed by Wes Ball, known for ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’, is co-produced by Sony and Nintendo, with Miyamoto and Avi Arad serving as producers. It is set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027. Given the passionate devotion of the ‘Zelda’ fanbase, this project carries immense expectations, making it a significant milestone for any actor, especially one still in his teens.
