Denis O’Hare’s Revenge Plan After Netflix Cancels ‘The Boroughs’
Denis O’Hare is determined to ensure ‘The Boroughs’ doesn’t fade away quietly. Following Netflix’s cancellation of the series after its first season, the actor has shared his own strategy for what he describes as “sweet revenge” against the streaming giant.
In a video on his Instagram, O’Hare expressed his disappointment over the show’s cancellation and urged fans and Emmy voters to continue their support for the series. He was taken aback by the number of viewers who connected with ‘The Boroughs’ and emphasized that the best way to show Netflix they made a mistake is through awards recognition.
“So, it’s Saturday and I’m just thinking about the fact that Netflix canceled ‘The Boroughs’ and how really bummed I am because it was such a great show,” O’Hare stated in the video.
The actor noted that the response from the audience was more robust than he anticipated. O’Hare mentioned that people from various age groups reached out to him, sharing their enjoyment of the series.
“I’ve been astounded how many people have come up to me and talked about how much they like the show and not just like, you know, old people but I’m talking about anybody, people who are, you know, in their 30s or 40s with kids,” he remarked.
Produced by the Duffer Brothers, known for their work on ‘Stranger Things’, ‘The Boroughs’ received positive feedback after its debut and cultivated a dedicated fanbase during its time on Netflix.
Despite the cancellation after just one season, O’Hare believes the show deserves recognition. He encouraged fans to consider voting for ‘The Boroughs’ during Emmy voting and highlighted several cast members he felt delivered outstanding performances.
“Everyone seemed to find something to relate to,” O’Hare said, urging viewers to support the series.
He specifically mentioned actors such as Bill Pullman, Alfre Woodard, Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg, asking fans to vote for them and the series itself.
“You can vote for me if you like. But also like Bill Pullman and Alfre Woodard and Alfie Molina and Geena Davis and Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, Alice Kremelberg and vote for ‘The Boroughs’ for Best Series and, you know, stick it to Netflix and let them know that they made a mistake,” O’Hare urged.
The actor framed Emmy support as a way for fans to send a message to Netflix following the cancellation. “I think that would be sweet revenge,” he added.
‘The Boroughs’ initially attracted attention after its release on Netflix, drawing in 5.6 million viewers during its opening weekend and eventually reaching 9.6 million viewers. However, viewership later declined, dropping to 3.7 million.

The cancellation comes at a busy time for the Duffer Brothers, who have also released another project, the limited series ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’.
While Netflix has moved on from ‘The Boroughs’, O’Hare’s message highlights that the cast still believes in the series and its audience. For now, the actor hopes that awards recognition can keep the show in the limelight and demonstrate that fans were not ready to say goodbye.
