Tom Holland and Zendaya are channeling their real-life Spider-Man energy into their latest discussions, revealing that their most intense battles often take place away from the film set and in front of a gaming console.

While promoting their upcoming movie ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, the actors shared their experiences with Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel from Insomniac Games. In an interview with IGN Benelux, Holland praised the games, calling them “absolutely sensational,” while Zendaya confessed that she enjoys the narratives but isn’t always confident in her gameplay skills.

Zendaya noted that she prefers tackling challenges solo rather than accepting help, even when Holland tries to assist her.

“I get very frustrated because I want to play all by myself and he’ll try to come just like, ‘Let me help you.’ And I’m like, ‘No! I need to do this on my own. You can’t help me,’” Zendaya explained.

One moment that truly tested her patience occurred while playing ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’. Zendaya described struggling through a challenging fight while controlling MJ and refusing to hand over the controller until she had exhausted all her options. Ultimately, she accepted Holland’s help, but only after a fierce battle.

This story illustrates how deeply the couple connects with the Spider-Man universe beyond their roles in the films. Holland portrays Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Zendaya takes on the role of MJ, and their relationship has become one of the most beloved aspects of the recent Spider-Man films.

Their remarks also highlight the significant impact Insomniac’s Spider-Man games have had on fans. Released in 2018, the first game was lauded for capturing the essence of being Spider-Man, from swinging through New York City to balancing Peter Parker’s personal dilemmas with his superhero duties. Critics and players frequently praised the game’s emotional narrative, intricate open world, and fast-paced combat.

The sequel, ‘Spider-Man 2’, built on that success by expanding the universe, introducing new abilities, and adding multiple playable characters. Many reviewers commended the performances, character arcs, and larger action sequences, while fans particularly appreciated how the game explored Peter Parker and Miles Morales as heroes with distinct experiences.

The popularity of the games has also influenced the Spider-Man films. Reports suggest that the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will depict Peter Parker in a new chapter following the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. After Doctor Strange’s spell, the world no longer remembers Peter, leaving him isolated and compelled to continue as Spider-Man on his own.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film brings back Holland and Zendaya alongside new and returning cast members, including Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo. The narrative will reportedly focus on Peter evolving into a more independent version of the hero, reminiscent of the classic street-level Spider-Man fans cherish from the comics.

The connection between the games and the films has become increasingly evident over the years. Many fans have noted that Insomniac’s portrayal of Peter Parker has helped revive the feeling of Spider-Man as a young hero grappling with everyday challenges while facing significant threats.

With ‘Brand New Day’ set to hit theaters on July 31, fans are eager to see if the film will capture some of the same energy that made the games such a hit. For Holland and Zendaya, it appears that the Spider-Man experience continues even when the cameras stop rolling, although Zendaya still insists on keeping the controller in her own hands.
