Romeo Beckham Takes First Acting Role in LGBTQ+ Drama ‘Forty Love’
Romeo Beckham is embarking on his acting journey with a significant role in a new French film that signifies a major shift in his career. The son of football icon David Beckham and fashion designer Victoria Beckham will star in the upcoming LGBTQ+ drama ‘Forty Love.’
Directed by fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti, the film will showcase Romeo alongside talents such as Paul Kircher, Guillaume Canet, and Benjamin Voisin. Currently in post-production, the movie is slated for release on November 25.
‘Forty Love’ centers around Sacha Gallo, a young tennis player portrayed by Kircher, who is determined to succeed on the professional tennis circuit in Paris. His focus is solely on winning and achieving the pinnacle of the sport, with his father serving as his coach.
However, Sacha’s world is turned upside down when a new and enigmatic competitor enters the scene. Romeo Beckham takes on the role of this challenger, prompting Sacha to question not only his position on the tennis court but also his feelings and identity.
The film delves into themes of ambition, identity, and love, with the official synopsis describing the connection between the two characters as a profound experience. “For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature — love,” it states. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilizing — and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.”
Producer Hugo Selignac praised director Carlotti’s artistic vision, noting that there is “a rare tenderness, melancholy and strength” in his work. He remarked that Carlotti’s transition to directing felt like a natural progression and described the film as a “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story.”
For Romeo Beckham, this project marks another significant step away from football and deeper into the realms of fashion and entertainment. Prior to this acting role, he established a modeling career, collaborating with renowned fashion brands like Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.
At 23, he has explored various career avenues, having trained in football and played for teams associated with Inter Miami CF and Brentford’s reserve side before deciding to leave the sport in 2024 to focus on fashion.
His transition into acting adds a new chapter to the Beckham family’s legacy in entertainment. While his parents have long been in the public eye, Romeo is carving out his own niche through modeling, fashion, and now film.
Although his debut film role comes with significant attention due to his famous lineage, ‘Forty Love’ seems to provide Romeo with an opportunity to step beyond that shadow. This romantic drama presents him with a unique challenge, centering on emotions rather than fame or athletics.
As the film prepares for its release, audiences will soon discover how Beckham navigates his first major acting role and whether this signifies the start of a new chapter in his on-screen career.
