Fans of Miranda Priestly’s fashion empire won’t have to wait much longer to enjoy ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ from the comfort of their homes. Following a highly successful theatrical run, the eagerly anticipated sequel is set for its digital, physical, and streaming release.

As per the announcement from 20th Century Studios, the movie will be available for digital purchase starting June 30 on platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home. Following this, it will be released on Blu-ray and 4K UHD on July 28, before making its streaming debut on Disney+ and Hulu on July 29.

The sequel sees the return of several beloved characters from the original film. Meryl Streep reprises her role as the formidable Miranda Priestly, while Anne Hathaway returns as Andy Sachs. Emily Blunt also makes her comeback as Emily Charlton, giving fans another chance to see this iconic trio together on screen.

This time around, the story follows Andy as she takes on the role of features editor at Runway magazine. According to the official synopsis from the studio, Andy finds herself working alongside Miranda once again as the magazine navigates new challenges in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

The film premiered in theaters on May 1 and quickly became one of the year’s biggest entertainment stories. Audiences who cherished the original movie were excited to reconnect with the characters, while a new generation of viewers discovered the world of Runway for the first time.

Critics have responded positively to the sequel, which currently holds a 77 percent critics score and an 84 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviews have highlighted the chemistry among the returning cast members and praised how the sequel modernizes its story while preserving the essence of the original film.

Financially, the film performed exceptionally well. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ grossed over $680 million worldwide during its theatrical run, against a reported production budget of $100 million. This figure significantly surpasses the original movie’s worldwide gross of $326 million, making the sequel the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

This success has propelled the overall franchise past the $1 billion mark at the global box office, a feat few comedy-drama series achieve. The strong performance demonstrates that audiences remain invested in these characters nearly two decades after the first movie became a cultural phenomenon.

Director David Frankel returned to direct the sequel, while screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna once again crafted the script. Producer Wendy Finerman also returned to guide the project, ensuring a strong connection to the original film that many fans appreciated.

For those interested in bonus content, the upcoming Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions will feature several behind-the-scenes featurettes. These extras delve into the making of the sequel, the evolution of the characters, and the film’s extensive fashion design work. Additionally, there will be a gag reel, audio commentary, and a music video for “Runway” performed by Lady Gaga and Doechii.

The arrival of the movie on Disney+ and Hulu is anticipated to introduce it to an even broader audience. Many successful theatrical releases often experience a second wave of popularity once they become available on streaming platforms, and ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ seems well-positioned to maintain its momentum.

With strong reviews, impressive box office numbers, and the return of one of cinema’s most iconic fashion figures, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has already established itself as one of the year’s biggest hits. Fans can look forward to revisiting Runway magazine from home when the film streams later this summer.
