Gordon Cormier Discusses Future of Netflix’s Avatar Universe and Live-Action ‘Legend of Korra’
Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ may be approaching its final season, but the Avatar universe might have more live-action stories to tell. Gordon Cormier, one of the series’ stars, has expressed his interest in returning for a potential live-action adaptation of ‘The Legend of Korra.’
Cormier, who portrays Aang in Netflix’s live-action remake of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ is gearing up for season 2, where Aang will continue his quest for an earthbending teacher while confronting the escalating threat from the Fire Nation.
In an interview with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns, Cormier was asked about the possibility of reprising his role in a live-action version of ‘The Legend of Korra’ after ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ completes its planned three-season run. He humorously noted the challenges of maintaining Aang’s iconic bald look, saying, “They’ll be bald-capping me, for sure,” while joking about not wanting to shave his head again.
Despite the light-hearted banter, Cormier made it clear that he would eagerly join another Avatar project if given the chance. He expressed his trust in the creative team behind the series and his curiosity about the direction the story might take.
“There’s no doubt. I don’t think I could turn it down,” he stated, adding that he would want to “read the scripts” and “see what we’re doing” before making a commitment.
Cormier also shared his enthusiasm for exploring more narratives within the Avatar universe. He mentioned the potential for adapting comic book storylines, particularly those that delve into events following the original animated series.
“I think that the comic book arcs would be dope. If we’re going to go find Zuko’s mom, and all that stuff, or even if they were to do their own thing, honestly, it would be cool,” he remarked.
‘The Legend of Korra’ premiered in 2012 as a sequel to ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’ Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the animated series is set approximately 70 years after Aang’s story and follows Korra, the next Avatar.
The show ran for four seasons and was lauded for broadening the Avatar universe with new characters, settings, and more mature themes. Fans have continued to express their desire for additional stories from the franchise.

Other Avatar projects are already in the works, including ‘Avatar: Seven Havens,’ an animated series that will follow the next Avatar after Korra, and ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender,’ which will focus on an older version of Aang.
While a live-action ‘Legend of Korra’ series from Netflix remains a possibility, much will depend on the success of the remaining seasons of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ on the streaming platform. The first season garnered strong viewership, though it received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike.
If the upcoming seasons improve and draw in more viewers, Netflix may decide that the Avatar universe still has plenty of stories to explore. For now, Cormier seems ready to continue the adventure if the opportunity arises.
