The streets of New York City have never seemed more perilous for Marvel’s street-level heroes, and the latest on-set developments from ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 highlight this fact.

Filming has been underway since March, capturing everything from intense rooftop fight rehearsals to tender family moments among beloved characters. Fans eagerly tracking every leak are already convinced this season is poised to be exceptional.

Initial set photos offered a surprisingly heartwarming glimpse. Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand, and the young Danielle Jones-Cage were seen on Randall’s Island, enjoying a park outing and even playfully arguing over ice cream. This brief moment of domestic bliss felt well-deserved after the tumultuous events of the Season 2 finale.

Fans who have followed the ‘Defenders’ saga since its Netflix days were understandably moved to see the Heroes for Hire reunited, now with a child in their midst.

However, those warm feelings were short-lived. Lurking just out of sight during those same location shoots was a far more menacing presence.

Wilson Bethel was spotted on set in his new comic-accurate Bullseye costume, with additional photos confirming that Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Danielle Cage will all appear together in Episode 5. The presence of one of the MCU’s most precise and psychopathic assassins near a small child is no coincidence, and insider reports have only intensified the tension. Insider Alex P, via The Cosmic Circus, revealed that Bullseye is reportedly targeting Danielle Cage in Season 3.

To grasp why Bullseye would target a child, we must revisit the Season 2 finale. In that episode, CIA operative Mr. Charles had entangled Luke Cage in his so-called “Dark Whispers,” and Bullseye stepped in to take Luke’s place when Cage finally returned home to Jessica Jones and Danielle. The implication from the outset was that this arrangement would have dire consequences.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane has been open about the connections between seasons.

Scardapane noted that the Season 2 finale scene featuring Jessica, Luke, and Danielle “holds an entire seed packet for seasons going forward,” confirming that the questions raised there directly influence Season 3. Now, with Bullseye operating as a weapons-for-hire operative under Mr. Charles, those seeds have evidently sprouted into a genuine threat for the Cage family.

Speaking to TV Insider after the Season 2 finale, Bethel confirmed his return, describing Bullseye’s new role as “a really exciting point of departure.” He noted that the character now has a clean slate, owes nothing to anyone, and is essentially a phenomenally skilled killer operating within a CIA black-ops framework. This kind of unchecked freedom, directed at a family with a bulletproof father and a super-powered mother, spells chaos.

With Matt Murdock incarcerated and facing what Scardapane has described as a “feral” new chapter of his life behind bars, the responsibility of protecting New York falls to those still standing. Luke, Danny, and Jessica are clearly positioned as the season’s street-level frontline, but they won’t be fighting alone.

Elodie Yung was seen filming as Elektra in Dumbo, Brooklyn, on June 23, with set images showcasing her in an updated costume featuring a deep red and black color scheme, sleeveless leather-style vest, black leather pants, and red forearm wraps with fingerless gloves.

Insiders have also reported that Season 3 will include a fight sequence between Bullseye and Elektra, which promises to be one of the most compelling matchups the show has attempted. Principal photography began in March and is expected to conclude in July, with the season set to premiere on Disney+ in March 2027 as part of Phase Six of the MCU.

The dramatic weight of the Danielle Cage angle is particularly effective as it punishes Luke for his past decisions.

He left his family to work in the shadows for a morally ambiguous government operative, and now that same operative has unleashed his replacement, potentially endangering the very people Luke aimed to protect. Scardapane has stated that the season will return to the street-level tone of Frank Miller’s ‘Daredevil’ comics, with executive producer Sana Amanat describing the creative vision as more stripped-down and back-to-basics. Using a child as the target of a deadly assassin is precisely the kind of visceral, personal stakes that street-level storytelling demands.

The irony of an unbeatable father and a nearly invincible mother scrambling to protect someone they almost lost due to their own choices adds significant narrative depth that distinguishes this show from the broader MCU. With a fully suited Bullseye, a returning Elektra, and a Daredevil who can only fight from within a prison cell, Season 3 is already set to carry more emotional weight than most superhero series manage throughout their entire runs.
