First Trailer Released for Mahershala Ali’s Film ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first trailer for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a new genre-blending action drama featuring Mahershala Ali. This film marks Ali’s return to a leading role as he gears up for a busy 2026, which includes projects like Wildwood and HBO Max’s Task Season 2. According to Amazon MGM Studios and reports from Collider, the film is set to be both a commercial release and a potential awards contender.

The narrative follows Latif, portrayed by Ali, a deeply religious hitman striving to maintain control over his life. While he earns a living through violence, he also seeks to uphold his faith and fulfill his responsibilities as a father. Everything shifts dramatically after the death of his wife, putting his family in jeopardy and forcing Latif into a perilous journey across Houston as enemies close in from all directions. What begins as a fight for survival evolves into a profound personal crisis, challenging his beliefs and identity under immense pressure.

Amazon MGM Studios characterizes the film as a blend of action and character-driven drama, emphasizing internal conflict. The trailer showcases both intense action sequences and quieter moments where Latif grapples with feelings of guilt, grief, and responsibility. The film delves into the struggle of a man entrenched in violence attempting to cling to his morality as his world unravels.

Earlier this year at CinemaCon, Ali discussed his role, describing Latif as “the most honest and complicated character I’ve read in a script,” and noted that the project is “exactly the kind of movie I’ve been wanting to make.” This role continues Ali’s trend of selecting characters that are emotionally complex and morally ambiguous.

The film also signifies a significant reunion behind the camera, directed by Bassam Tariq, known for Mogul Mowgli. Tariq and Ali were previously slated to collaborate on Marvel’s Blade project before Tariq exited the film in 2022. With Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, they finally join forces on a project outside the Marvel universe.

The supporting cast features John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, Tramell Tillman, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tiffany Boone, and Adia. This ensemble enhances the film’s focus on complex characters and shifting allegiances, with many actors recognized for their work in dramatic and genre roles.

Production is handled by Orion Pictures, with additional contributions from producers Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari alongside Bassam Tariq. The film has already attracted attention due to its cast and creative team, as well as its unique tone that fuses grounded drama with genre elements.

The release will occur in stages, starting with a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on September 25, followed by a nationwide expansion on October 2 and October 9. With the trailer now available, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother embarks on its marketing journey as one of the standout upcoming titles in Ali’s portfolio.
