New ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ BTS Footage Features Peter Parker vs Scorpion
Sony has unveiled new behind-the-scenes footage from ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, providing fans with an exciting glimpse of one of the film’s major action sequences that wasn’t featured in the official trailers.
This fresh footage showcases Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in a fierce battle against Scorpion, portrayed by Michael Mando. The video offers an up-close view of the fight, highlighting Holland’s commitment to performing his own stunts. In this intense sequence, Scorpion uses his mechanical tail to send Spider-Man soaring through the air.
The behind-the-scenes feature reveals that this battle is not merely an action highlight; it also serves as one of several moments in the film that pays homage to classic Spider-Man comic book covers from various eras.
Tom Holland explains that the filmmakers aimed to honor Spider-Man’s comic book legacy throughout the movie. He notes that the upcoming sequel features multiple visual tributes inspired by iconic covers that long-time fans will surely recognize.
The Scorpion confrontation draws inspiration from the cover of ‘Spider-Man Adventures #2’, published in 1995. This comic narrates the story of Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion, as he faces off against Spider-Man after his transformation into the formidable villain. In this encounter, Scorpion gains the upper hand and nearly unmasks Spider-Man before the effects of his transformation compel him to withdraw.
The behind-the-scenes video also confirms that this is just one of the comic covers recreated in the film. Fans can expect to see references to ‘Amazing Fantasy #15’, which introduced Spider-Man, as well as ‘Amazing Spider-Man #345’ and ‘Amazing Spider-Man #134’. These visual homages are part of the movie’s initiative to celebrate the character’s extensive comic book history.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues Peter Parker’s journey following the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. The sequel is set four years later, after a spell erases Peter’s identity from everyone’s memory, forcing him to start anew without the closest people in his life remembering who he is.
Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. The cast also features Michael Mando returning as Scorpion, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Krondon as Tombstone, and Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role.
The newly released footage offers fans another glimpse of the film’s action scale while showcasing the filmmakers’ dedication to honoring Spider-Man’s comic book legacy. Instead of merely adapting familiar characters, the team seems to have recreated several iconic comic book images as part of the narrative.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set to hit theaters on July 31, with tickets already available for purchase.
