Warner Bros. is set to bring one of the internet’s most peculiar horror creations to the big screen. The studio has successfully acquired the rights to ‘Siren Head’, the viral monster conceived by Canadian artist Trevor Henderson, after a competitive bidding war against several major studios.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Pictures secured the rights in a multi-million-dollar deal. The project garnered interest from numerous major companies, including Sony, Universal, Paramount, and 20th Century Studios. The deal is said to be worth a low seven-figure amount, focusing on a theatrical release rather than a streaming-only option.

‘Siren Head’ originated as a simple internet creature design in 2018. Henderson designed the character as a terrifying, tall, skeletal figure with two large sirens for a head. The creature quickly gained popularity online due to its eerie design and enigmatic backstory, evolving from a single image into a vast fan-created universe.

Over the years, ‘Siren Head’ has inspired countless YouTube videos, fan-made games, artwork, theories, and merchandise. The character has particularly resonated with younger audiences, with reports indicating that ‘Siren Head’-related content has amassed billions of views across platforms like TikTok and YouTube.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the project became even more appealing due to the talent involved. Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the horror hit ‘Weapons’, is collaborating on the script with Brian Duffield, known for writing films such as ‘No One Will Save You’ and the upcoming survival movie ‘Whalefall’. Duffield is expected to direct the ‘Siren Head’ movie.

Cregger will also produce the film alongside Roy Lee and Andrew Childs from Vertigo Entertainment, the company behind ‘Weapons’. Scott Glassgold from 12:01 Films will also produce, while Duffield will contribute through his company Jurassic Party Productions.

The strong interest from studios highlights Hollywood’s increasing focus on internet-generated horror concepts. ‘Siren Head’ follows the success of other online horror ideas that transitioned to theaters, such as ‘The Backrooms’, which became a surprise box office hit after emerging from a viral internet trend.

Hollywood is actively seeking ways to engage younger audiences, particularly Gen Z viewers who have discovered stories through platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and online communities. The success of internet horror projects has demonstrated that online fandoms can evolve into significant movie audiences.

‘Siren Head’ is more than just a popular meme. The character has developed a broader mythology, with narratives depicting it as a menacing monster that lurks in forests, using sounds and recordings to lure its victims. This expanding lore has attracted filmmakers who see potential beyond the original viral image.

Henderson has prior experience in Hollywood. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he previously collaborated with producer Scott Glassgold on Sony’s 2024 horror film ‘Tarot’, where he designed the film’s monsters.

The rights deal was negotiated by Verve Talent Agency, which also represented another significant horror bidding battle involving ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ earlier this year.

With Warner Bros. now holding the rights and a team of seasoned horror filmmakers on board, ‘Siren Head’ could be the next internet-born creature to transition from online legend to a major horror film attraction.
