New DC Studios Project in Development at Swaybox Studios with ‘Super Family’ Connection
Warner Bros. Discovery is quietly expanding its DC Studios animation lineup, and as reported by The Wrap, a new project linked to the “Super family” is currently in development at Swaybox Studios. This announcement comes alongside the studio’s work on Dynamic Duo, another ambitious DC project that was showcased at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
While full details remain unconfirmed, the report strongly suggests that this new project will focus on characters associated with Superman’s broader family. This could potentially include figures like Supergirl, Superboy, or other Kryptonian-related characters, although no official announcements have been made yet. At this stage, it is simply referred to as a “Super family” project in early development.
Swaybox Studios, located in New Orleans, is already collaborating closely with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, DC Studios, and Matt Reeves’ production company 6th & Idaho on Dynamic Duo. This film is pushing the boundaries with a unique visual style that combines computer animation, physical models, and puppetry. Early descriptions presented at Annecy indicate that the result is a hybrid style that departs from traditional animation or motion capture.
The creative team behind Dynamic Duo is dedicated to crafting a Gotham City that feels more intricate and tangible than any previous animated depiction. The characters are designed using a blend of real-world movement and digital enhancement, resulting in a look that is both innovative and slightly experimental.
While Dynamic Duo centers on two iterations of Robin, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the newly reported “Super family” project hints that DC Studios is broadening this creative approach beyond Gotham and into the Superman aspect of its universe.
According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. is already excited about Swaybox’s contributions and is developing more ideas with the studio even before Dynamic Duo hits theaters in 2028. This early expansion indicates confidence in the animation style and in DC’s overall strategy of creating interconnected yet visually distinct animated projects.
Dynamic Duo narrates the story of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd during their formative years. Both teenagers navigate Gotham City while being influenced by two very different figures. Grayson is mentored by Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, while Jason Todd is drawn towards a darker path associated with the Red Hood. The narrative delves into how each character evolves under these contrasting influences.
A central theme of the film is identity. In early footage described by attendees, Jason Todd perceives something different in the Red Hood mask compared to Dick Grayson, who interprets it in an entirely different manner. This contrast is intended to reflect their emotional journeys as they mature into their roles within Gotham.
Director Arthur Mintz, who co-founded Swaybox Studios, has characterized the project as a significant advancement in merging animation techniques. He has expressed the ambition to create visuals that feel both familiar and entirely new simultaneously.
The Wrap reports that Warner Bros. is actively pursuing more projects with this same creative team, indicating that Dynamic Duo is just the beginning. The anticipated “Super family” project could extend this experimental approach into another facet of the DC Universe, potentially exploring Kryptonian mythology and legacy.
At this point, details are still scarce, but the direction is evident. DC Studios is investigating new methods to narrate superhero tales through animation, and Swaybox Studios is emerging as a pivotal player in that vision.
