Matt Reeves has kept the villain lineup for his Gotham sequel tightly under wraps, prompting fans to piece together clues from set photos, cryptic tweets, and comments in interviews.

Recently, Sebastian Stan was seen in public with a dramatically different look, appearing completely bald and clean-shaven. This change has led fans to believe it may confirm the character he is portraying in ‘The Batman Part II.’ Initially, many assumed Stan would play Harvey Dent, the district attorney who eventually becomes Two-Face, but this latest sighting has reignited discussions that began earlier this year.

The debate about Stan’s role stems from a report by industry insider Jeff Sneider, who suggested that Stan might not be playing Dent at all, but rather Victor Zsasz, a psychopathic serial killer known for carving tally marks into his skin for each victim. Sneider also claimed that Brian Tyree Henry has been cast as Harvey Dent, flipping the assumptions that arose when Stan’s casting was first announced in January.

Zsasz, created by writers Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle, first appeared in 1992’s ‘Batman: Shadow of the Bat’ number one. The character has been portrayed in live-action before, including Tim Booth in ‘Batman Begins’ and Chris Messina in ‘Birds of Prey,’ as well as Anthony Carrigan in the television series ‘Gotham.’ However, he has never been the primary antagonist in a major theatrical Batman film.

This distinction is significant because Reeves has described the sequel’s main villain as someone who has not been depicted in films before, which aligns more closely with Zsasz than Dent, given the numerous portrayals of Two-Face in films like ‘Batman Forever’ and ‘The Dark Knight.’ Zsasz is typically shown as completely hairless and covered in scars, which supports the idea that a shaved head could indicate his character.

While Stan has not confirmed which villain he is portraying, he has hinted at the mystery surrounding his role. During the Cannes Film Festival in May, he mentioned to Deadline that he would be playing “many roles in this one” as production moved to London for the summer, which at the time seemed to suggest the dual identity of Two-Face.

Stan expressed feeling “excited” and “nervous” about the transformation, noting he had already collaborated with the hair and makeup teams to design his character’s disfigurement. This comment has been interpreted differently depending on which theory fans support, as both Two-Face and Zsasz would require significant makeup work, albeit in different styles.

Fans are divided on how to interpret the situation, with some arguing that Stan would need a wig for the half-disfigured version of Two-Face, while others point out that he has sported a similarly short haircut since at least 2025, long before ‘The Batman Part II’ began production. This detail means the recent sighting is not definitive proof either way, despite its rapid spread on social media.

Warner Bros. has not provided any official comment regarding Stan’s specific role, and Reeves has kept character confirmations for the film’s new cast additions deliberately vague. What is confirmed is that Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne, alongside Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobb, with Scarlett Johansson and Charles Dance also joining the cast amid the speculation surrounding Stan.

‘The Batman Part II’ is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, giving fans ample time to analyze every haircut, wardrobe leak, and cryptic quote leading up to the release. Until Reeves or Warner Bros. clarify the character breakdown, the mystery of whether Stan will become Two-Face or Victor Zsasz remains unresolved.
