Timothée Chalamet Praises Denis Villeneuve’s Fast-Paced ‘Dune Part Three’
Denis Villeneuve has dedicated nearly a decade to crafting his adaptation of Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ saga, transforming it into one of the defining sci-fi trilogies of our time. What began as a single ambitious film in 2021 has evolved into a vast, multi-chapter epic that fans have embraced with unwavering loyalty.
This devotion was evident on Wednesday during a global IMAX fan event that unveiled the latest trailer for ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which was simulcast across major cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal, London, Berlin, Mexico City, and Abu Dhabi. The footage provided the most comprehensive look yet at the trilogy’s concluding chapter.
Amid the excitement, star Timothée Chalamet took a moment to commend Villeneuve for the rapid pace at which he has brought the trilogy to life, as reported by Variety. “He could’ve taken years in between these projects. Instead, he buckled in and we got it done right away,” Chalamet remarked during the event, drawing a favorable comparison to Peter Jackson’s original ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.
Chalamet further expressed that he could not remember the last time a filmmaker completed three major projects in such quick succession without substantial breaks in between. He concluded his tribute with a heartfelt declaration of trust in his director, stating, “I am so grateful for Denis. In Denis we trust.”
Villeneuve reflected on the journey when an audience member in Dallas inquired about the advice he would give his younger self at the project’s inception in 2019. “Sleep as much as you can,” he joked, before becoming more earnest and describing the decade spent bringing the trilogy to life as “the privilege of my life.”
The event also featured a personal touch for attendees, as Chalamet revealed that an envelope had been hidden under one seat in each participating theater. The lucky finder will receive a private screening of ‘Dune: Part Three’ for themselves and their friends once the film premieres in theaters this December.
In addition to these sentimental moments, Chalamet discussed the emotional core of the story, particularly the strained relationship between his character Paul Atreides and Zendaya’s Chani following Paul’s betrayal and marriage to another woman. He credited Villeneuve’s portrayal of that dynamic as essential to uniting the larger narrative, while also praising Zendaya’s expanded role in the upcoming film.
‘Dune: Part Three’ adapts Frank Herbert’s novel ‘Dune Messiah’ and picks up seventeen years after the events of ‘Part Two,’ following Paul as he navigates the repercussions of ruling as emperor of the known universe. The film sees the return of Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Florence Pugh, whose role as Princess Irulan expands significantly, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy reprising her role as Alia Atreides.
With the trailer and an extended clip from the film also set to screen ahead of IMAX 70mm showings of ‘The Odyssey,’ anticipation for Villeneuve’s final chapter continues to build steadily ahead of its December 18 release.
