Marvel Studios has spent nearly two years teasing its next major crossover event, but the silence is finally starting to break. Anticipation for the upcoming chapter of the Avengers saga has been steadily growing since the shocking return of Robert Downey Jr. to the franchise was announced, leaving fans eager for any substantial information about what lies ahead.

That wait is about to shorten, especially for fans in China. Marvel Studios has begun constructing an elaborate promotional display for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ at the Shanghai Expo, offering the public its first tangible glimpse of the physical sets created for the film ahead of its release later this year.

Reports indicate that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will be in Shanghai this weekend for the event, which will showcase ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as the booth opens to the public on July 11. Photos of the construction that have circulated online reveal two fully recreated locations from the film, including Doctor Doom’s throne room and the interior of the X-Mansion.

The recreation of the throne room has garnered particular attention, as it closely resembles a set of leaked images that appeared online months ago, which many initially believed to be AI-generated fakes. With the Shanghai booth now confirming those details, it seems Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Victor Von Doom will indeed be seen seated on that very throne when the film debuts.

The X-Mansion section of the display is equally detailed, showcasing recreations of both Professor X’s wheelchair and Magneto’s chair, situated in what appears to be the room that the two characters have famously shared throughout X-Men history. Additional banners scattered throughout the booth reference other significant locations expected to feature in the film, including the Baxter Building, Wakanda, and Avengers Headquarters, hinting at the extensive scope of the Marvel multiverse this crossover aims to explore.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with a script penned by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron, marking the duo’s return to the franchise after their work on ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The film is set to focus on heroes from three different universes uniting against a common existential threat, according to Marvel’s official synopsis, and boasts an impressive ensemble cast drawn from the MCU, the X-Men films, and beyond.

This star-studded cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, and Downey Jr., alongside newcomers like Channing Tatum as Gambit and Simu Liu reprising his role as Shang-Chi. The sheer scale of the ensemble has only intensified speculation regarding how the Russos will manage so many characters in a single film.

While the Shanghai display offers the first real-world look at the movie’s production design, it is just one of several significant events fans are eagerly anticipating this month. Marvel Studios is also set to return to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time since 2024, with a panel scheduled for July 25 in Hall H, where many expect the film’s first official trailer to be unveiled.

With the Shanghai booth opening and the Comic-Con panel approaching, Marvel seems to be entering a more public phase of its ‘Doomsday’ rollout after months of relative secrecy. Although plot details have remained limited, director Joe Russo has previously indicated that the story draws inspiration from various classic ‘Secret Wars’ comic arcs.

For a franchise that has kept fans guessing since Downey Jr.’s surprise Comic-Con reveal two years ago, this new wave of promotion suggests the studio is finally ready to start revealing more. With the Shanghai Expo booth now open and a Hall H panel on the horizon, the coming weeks could provide the clearest insight yet into Marvel’s plans for its most significant crossover event since ‘Endgame’.
