A recently shared image from Sony Korea offers fans an exciting glimpse of Spider-Man wielding a familiar weapon in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, potentially hinting at a significant villain reveal in the film’s promotional material.

The image features Tom Holland’s Spider-Man crouched in rubble, sporting a glowing mechanical gauntlet on his arm, a device that longtime fans instantly recognize as Shocker’s signature weapon.

New footage has showcased how Spider-Man intends to confront the Hulk, revealing him using what appears to be a modified Shocker gauntlet. Shocker is a classic Spider-Man antagonist, and the MCU’s version was previously seen as part of Vulture’s criminal organization in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’

In an earlier trailer, fans noticed Spider-Man falling through the sky alongside the Hulk, with a building collapsing behind them. Observant viewers spotted the same electric gauntlet worn by Shocker in ‘Homecoming’ attached to his arm, suggesting Shocker may play a role in the storyline.

The character has a complex history in the MCU, with two different actors portraying Shocker. Jackson Brice was the first to don the mantle before being killed by Vulture, while Herman Schultz took over afterward. The last time audiences saw Schultz’s Shocker, he was webbed up by Spider-Man and left for the authorities, so ‘Brand New Day’ will need to clarify how he becomes free again or how his gauntlet resurfaces without him.

In the comics, Shocker is a self-taught engineering genius who lacks natural superpowers, relying instead on vibro-shock gauntlets that can blast through virtually anything in his path. If Marvel is indeed bringing him back for this film, it would mark his first MCU appearance since 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’

For months, rumors have circulated about Shocker technology making a comeback in ‘Brand New Day’, likely after being seized by Damage Control and released for unknown reasons. This tech could provide Spider-Man with an advantage in his battle against the Hulk, given the odds stacked against him. Some speculate this could even hint at a larger Sinister Six team forming to challenge Holland’s Spider-Man in the future, with Shocker joining Scorpion as a villain Peter has faced multiple times.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and takes place four years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, with Peter Parker secretly protecting New York after the world forgets he ever existed. The film hits theaters on July 31, and if this gauntlet tease pays off, Shocker may emerge as one of the film’s most surprising returning characters.
